Daeheung Station brunch restaurant for seafood salad: HEOD Gongdeok

In short

HEOD Gongdeok is a brunch restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Daeheung Station, with window seats looking out over the Gyeongui Line Forest Park. Dining solo while watching my diet, I ordered the seafood salad with a side of mashed potatoes, and the cilantro and round-sliced vegetables with their exotic aroma lifted the whole plate, with a bright, tangy dressing. If you want a healthy but genuinely tasty meal with a forest-path view, the seafood salad at HEOD Gongdeok is the one to order.

I've always loved the cafés and restaurants along the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, so when I heard there was a really good brunch spot, I had to check it out!

How to get to HEOD Gongdeok and the forest-view window seats

HEOD Gongdeok is just a 4-minute walk from Daeheung Station. I passed Sinchon Station and strolled over slowly.

Since I'd booked ahead on Naver, they seated me at a window seat with a view of the Gyeongui Line Forest Park!

They also have 2-person and 4+ person tables, so it's a great pick for group get-togethers too — HEOD Gongdeok, the brunch spot near Daeheung Station.

Their listing says you can use the Sinsu public parking lot or the Modu Parking app if you're driving — worth noting for anyone coming by car! (₩2,400 per 30 minutes)

When I checked in with my reservation, they even had a little plaque with my name on it! If you're visiting for an anniversary, booking ahead would make for a really nice brunch.

What I ordered at HEOD Gongdeok: seafood salad and mashed potatoes

September's packed with events so I've been strictly watching what I eat lately. But if eating stops being fun, I get a little down, so I went with a salad that's healthy but still delicious!

The seafood salad that looks like a bouquet

The seafood salad at HEOD Gongdeok looked so pretty when the staff set it down on the table that I was actually surprised! The colorful mix caught my eye like a gorgeous bouquet.

It's a mix of cilantro, shrimp, octopus(?), cherry tomatoes, ricotta cheese, and mango.

There was cilantro, plus these round, thinly sliced vegetables with a unique texture next to it — together those two really brought the salad's flavor to life!

These round little vegetables!! I have no idea what they're called, but the texture and aroma were great. The ingredients themselves were tasty, but the dressing was so bright and tangy at HEOD Gongdeok that I almost wanted to just drink it.

The shrimp were really plump too!!

They also served cabbage and radish pickles alongside it — nice crunchy texture.

The mashed potato side dish

It felt like a waste to just eat the salad alone, so I ordered the mashed potatoes as a side!

Even when you're watching your diet, you've got to keep those carbs-protein-fat ratios in check haha. It made me happy that I could enjoy delicious food while still managing my diet at HEOD Gongdeok.

Why solo brunch at HEOD Gongdeok still felt good

Every single ingredient in HEOD Gongdeok's seafood salad was so fresh that I ended up eating some of it on its own!

The combinations between ingredients also worked so well together that I mixed and matched them in different ways! I had this as a solo dinner at HEOD Gongdeok, and the seafood salad was so good it was genuinely fun to eat alone.

The soft octopus(?) paired with ricotta cheese was such a great combo too!!

That octopus(?) was really tender. Looking at it, I'm guessing it's octopus — right? haha.

There was a generous amount of plump shrimp in there, so it never felt lacking!!

The seafood salad enjoyed during a solo meal at HEOD Gongdeok

I think the real kick of this seafood salad at HEOD Gongdeok was the combination of fresh ingredients with the cilantro and that unnamed round vegetable with its exotic scent and flavor!! Getting to enjoy a healthy, delicious salad while looking out at the beautiful Gyeongui Line Forest Park made for a very happy evening.
