Vietnamese cold rice noodles with kids in Jeongja-dong: Kkamon Jeongja

I was looking for something to eat with the kids and my husband on the weekend when I suddenly craved Vietnamese food. I've always liked pho, and there are plenty of kid-friendly options too, so it seemed perfect for a family outing. That's how we ended up at Kkamon Bundang Jeongja Direct Store!

If you've ever searched for a place to eat in Jeongja-dong, you've probably heard of this one. Going there in person, I found the menu varied enough to belong on any Jeongja-dong food list.

We arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday. It was fairly quiet at that hour, so we could settle in and eat comfortably. But just past 6pm, customers started streaming in one after another. Delivery orders kept coming in throughout our meal too, so it's clearly a spot popular for both dine-in and delivery.

Kkamon Bundang Jeongja: exterior and interior

Walking into Kkamon Bundang Jeongja Direct Store, I immediately felt the exotic atmosphere typical of a Vietnamese restaurant.

The interior was clean, so it felt comfortable to visit as a family.

When we first arrived the tables were pretty open, but as time went on more families started filling in. During the quiet hours it's relaxed, and during meal times it gets lively — the atmosphere clearly shifts depending on the time you go.

Nice touch — they even had interdental brushes and hair ties available :)

There were already so many types of pho, and with fried rice and side dishes on top of that, it seemed better to order a few things to share rather than just one bowl of pho.

Cold rice noodles: light and refreshing

The first thing we tried was the cold pho. It's the dish I always want to try when I'm craving Vietnamese food on a hot day, so I was looking forward to it this time.

It comes with thinly sliced Korean beef shank and plump shrimp, along with a sweet and tangy cold broth — refreshing to eat. It has a clean feel that's quite different from the warm version, so it made for a fun change. Sometimes when it's hot out you just want something cold instead of a steaming bowl of soup, and this hit exactly that spot. If you're a pho lover, it might be fun to compare it side by side with the regular version sometime.

Fried chicken neck: crispy outside, chewy inside

Second up was the fried chicken thigh. Chewy chicken thigh fried until crispy — a great side dish. Eating just pho alone can feel a little lacking, but ordering a fried side like this made the meal much more filling.

Since we were eating with kids, having a side dish beyond just soup and fried rice made mealtime more fun with more to pick from. Crispy outside, chewy inside — plenty to enjoy as a side to the main dishes.

Kkamon fried rice, full of smoky wok flavor

Personally, my favorite was the Kkamon fried rice. The grains were fluffy and separate, pairing well with the pho.

When we go out with the kids, we tend to add a rice dish rather than just ordering noodles, and I was glad we added the fried rice this time too. The rice had a distinct smoky wok flavor, and combined with the special meat, it had way more depth than plain rice. Alternating between the pho broth and the fried rice made for a nice combination.

The one miss: water spinach stir-fry, sold out

Honestly, the dish I wanted most on this visit was the water spinach stir-fry. But it was sold out when we got there :( I remember eating this dish in Vietnam once, and it left a great impression, so I was really looking forward to trying it again — disappointing. On the menu it was listed at ₩12,000 and described as something that goes perfectly with rice, which made me even more curious. I couldn't try it this time, but I've already marked it down for next visit :)

Why Kkamon Jeongja works for a family dinner

The wide range of menu options meant everyone could pick according to their own taste. Pho lovers get pho, rice lovers get fried rice. The variety of side dishes also made it easy to share when there are several of you. When eating out with kids like we did, a place with lots of choices is definitely more convenient than one with just a single dish. This time we had cold pho, fried chicken thigh, and fried rice — next time we're going to try something new.
