Inside Nokji: a bar table with its own grill for every two guests

Inside Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch, we were seated at a bar table with a grill built in for each pair of seats. The staff member assigned to us gave us a friendly explanation of everything!

There are also group seats and 4-person tables inside. The space isn't huge, but it can hold quite a lot of people.

As time passed the place filled up fast — it's the kind of Jeongja Station restaurant people bring whole work teams to.

Nokji menu and prices: French rack at 34,000 won

At Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch we ordered two servings of French rack at ₩34,000 each and mentaiko (pollock roe) green onion rice for ₩6,000. Their signature dishes are aged fresh short rib, French rack, and shoulder rack!

They also have beef cuts like sirloin cap and flat iron steak.

It's a Jeongja-dong meat restaurant offering high-quality lamb and beef, grilled by experts, at a reasonable price.

There's also a nice range of wine and whiskey to pair with the meal — worth a look!

French rack for two: from table setting to resting the lamb

When you order the French rack, Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch first brings out a personal setting.

This is the personal setting they gave us right after ordering.

Side dishes including white kimchi, wasabi, and herring roe

From baek-kimchi (white kimchi) to all kinds of sauces — let's take a look one by one!

There's wasabi, herring roe, and a seasoned dried radish-green (siraegi) doenjang mix.

White kimchi and Nokji's special soy sauce! You can add as much spicy cheongyang chili as you like.

And salt for a plain, clean bite!

All the side dishes and fermented seafood were mild, not too salty, so they stayed light and never got tiring.

Being pregnant, I (Hamjourney) only added a tiny bit of cheongyang chili!

What the French rack looks like: rosy pink slices for two

Soft French rack with a beautiful red glow!

We ordered two servings — a good amount for two people to share comfortably.

I'd heard it's more tender and tasty than shoulder rack, so I decided to try it.

The charcoal grill was already heating up from the moment we ordered!

They laid the French rack, mushrooms, and green onion on the grill with a satisfying sizzle.

Thanks to the strong heat and the staff's skill, it grilled to perfection without ever burning.

They flipped the meat at just the right moments as it turned a beautiful golden brown.

They cooked it just enough and sliced it for us first. The outside was golden and crisp, the inside juicy — their grilling skill is really something else!

The meat then goes through a resting process, which spreads the heat evenly inside, reducing juice loss and maximizing flavor and aroma.

After resting, the lamb is sliced up into easy-to-eat pieces — and the plate it's served on is actually a mini grill too, so the meat never gets cold!

Grilled French rack served on a mini-grill plate

The lean meat is thick with a satisfying chew, but because it's young lamb, it's never tough — just tender all the way through!

Thickly sliced French rack lean meat

There's absolutely no gamey smell typical of lamb — it's clean and light. The skill of the staff really matters this much! No wonder it's a well-known Jeongja Station restaurant.

Three sauces in order: soy, egg yolk and basil pesto

Then a second sauce comes out with egg yolk in it. It's a special sauce stirred until the yolk breaks and turns brown.

They also serve mashed potatoes, great for dipping the meat in or eating on their own. Creamy and soft, it melts in your mouth — dip it generously in the yolk sauce and it's pure bliss.❤

The mushrooms, grilled golden brown and full of flavor, are also a nice treat.

Next they grilled the rib meat, along with some minari (water dropwort) that came with it. Don't underestimate the meat between the bones — it's not tough at all, it has a nice chewy texture.

Rib meat and grilled minari picked apart on a wooden board

They carefully picked the meat off the bone on a pretty wooden cutting board, prepping it to be easy to eat. They recommended it especially with the minari, since the aroma pairs so well.

While the onions were also grilling to a nice golden brown, the last sauce arrived! Basil pesto with nuts, served together with cheese.

The French rack rib meat, grilled minari, and the special sauce together were an amazing combination! It genuinely felt like being at a high-end French restaurant.

And the caramelized grilled onions added a lovely sweetness on top of everything — truly excellent.

Mentaiko green onion rice, 6,000 won: the side to pair with lamb

And of course, the mentaiko (pollock roe) green onion rice — I always order this whenever I come to Nokji.

Fluffy rice combined with salty mentaiko and fragrant green onion makes for wonderful umami.

Rather than being sharply salty, the mentaiko's savory flavor spreads gently.

Mix it in with the mayo and it comes together in no time!

The fragrance of green onion adds freshness and balances out the saltiness of the mentaiko cleanly!

A spoonful of finished mentaiko green onion rice

It's a really great side dish to pair with the lamb.

They even gave us a separate bowl so we could portion it out easily, and we ate until we were full!
