Loco Loco Steamed Clams: a steamed clam pub near Yeongdeungpo Station

While looking for somewhere to eat dinner and have a drink near Yeongdeungpo Station, I went to Loco Loco Steamed Clams Yeongdeungpo Direct Store 🤗 That day I was craving steamed clams for the first time in a while, and this place kept coming up with good reviews as a Yeongdeungpo spot I wanted to try haha. With the weather getting chilly, I highly recommend steamed clams with a drink 😎

There are so many places to eat or drink around Yeongdeungpo Station that it's hard to decide where to go, but the vibe here looked nice and clean, so I wanted to try it whenever I craved steamed clams!! haha Steamed clams let you enjoy a bunch of seafood at once, plus the broth, which makes it such a great drinking snack ✨ It's suitable for anything from a work dinner to a date spot, so I'd recommend giving it a try 😊

How generous are the Loco Loco steamed clams on the table?

What we ordered was the Loco Loco steamed clams! Once the food arrived, the table got really full haha. The staff set it up to be easy to eat, and in particular they used huge clam shells with a structure that lets water drain out so it stays warm the whole time — pretty neat to see 😁

When I tried the clams, they were plump and had a chewy texture, and each clam had a slightly different texture, which made it fun to try one after another. But of course with steamed clams, the meat matters, but the broth that comes with it has to be good for you to keep reaching for it. The cool flavor drawn out from the clams had soaked into the broth, so I ended up spooning up the broth as I ate the clams ☺️

Saero Omija with Loco Loco steamed clams: how the pairing tastes

That day we also ordered Saero Omija! We had a glass alongside the steamed clams as a drinking snack, and the pairing worked so well! Steamed clams are mainly about a clean, cool taste, so eating them with the refreshing feel of Saero Omija made my mouth feel clean. On a day I wanted a drink with a seafood snack, this menu choice was spot on 😊

As I kept eating the steamed clams, I naturally kept reaching for it as a drinking snack. I picked the meat out to eat with the broth, and spooned up the broth in between, so I could enjoy it warm, which was nice. Steamed clams feel like a dish that's better enjoyed slowly with drinks or other food rather than eaten alone haha.

Adding kalguksu noodles to the leftover clam broth

After eating a good amount of the steamed clams, we added the kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) I'd planned in advance! It would be a shame to eat steamed clams and skip the kalguksu haha. Putting the noodles into the leftover broth and cooking them gave a completely different feel from eating the steamed clams at the start 🤭

Since the broth had fully absorbed the flavor of the seafood while we ate the clams, that cool taste soaked well into the kalguksu noodles too. Rather than just having kalguksu on its own, putting it into the leftover broth from the steamed clams added the seafood flavor, which made it even more delicious 😋

Cooking the noodles through and eating them with the broth, the chewy noodles and cool broth went really well together. Even though I'd already filled up a fair amount on the steamed clams, I kept eating more kalguksu. I guess when you eat steamed clams, finishing with kalguksu at the end is what really rounds off the meal properly ✨

Rainy days at Loco Loco: unlimited kalguksu and broth

Especially since I was eating steamed clams as a drinking snack and finishing with kalguksu at the end, it worked out nicely as a full meal too. I'd come at first just for steamed clams and drinks, but by the end, after having warm kalguksu too, I felt like I'd had a really solid dinner 😋 And apparently on rainy days, the kalguksu and broth are unlimited!! Come for steamed clams and kalguksu on a rainy day ✨

What I loved most was that it doesn't end with just the steamed clams — you can add kalguksu into the leftover broth! At first I wondered whether kalguksu would even work with a steamed dish, but they added more broth so I could enjoy a delicious bowl of kalguksu too 🥹 Eating the clams while enjoying the broth, then adding the noodles at the end, meant I finished the meal feeling completely satisfied with nothing left over haha.
