Why a Sunday afternoon called for takeout from Yeouido IFC Mall

We picked up dinner for the two of us at Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch on a Sunday afternoon. Last Sunday was an easy day with nothing much planned.

In the morning we tidied up the house a bit, went to Hans and picked up a cake, finished tidying, and showed the apartment to a realtor. After putting the baby down for a nap and feeding her a quick lunch, we headed to IFC Mall to pick up dinner for my husband and me. IFC Mall is easy to park at and there's plenty to look at, so it's a comfortable place to visit with a baby.

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is located right along the underground walkway from Yeouido Station to IFC Mall. That makes it an easy spot to reach by subway too.

Hyeonseonine is known for tasty, properly spicy tteokbokki! They have branches all over, but this was my first time visiting the Yeouido location. The sauce has that all-around crowd-pleasing flavor, so it was delicious. I also liked that you can adjust the spice level.

At Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch you order and pay at the kiosk. The menu has both set combos and à la carte items.

We wanted to try a bit of everything, so we went with the Hyeonseonine Set and a cola. Personally what I liked about the set was that it includes gimbap. Beyond the regular pre-cooked tteokbokki, Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch also offers instant tteokbokki, cooked to order, where you can add whatever extra ingredients you want.

If you're eating in, there's a self-serve bar where you can grab gimbap, pickled radish, spoons, forks, water and more. Aprons are provided too.

The Hyeonseonine Set and cola were packed up quickly and handed over in a shopping bag, easy to carry.

The moment we got home, we opened it right up. It smelled so good that we couldn't wait for dinnertime and just dug in haha. They'd given us an empty container just for the fried snacks, so we didn't even need to pull out a plate.

With tteokbokki, fried snacks, gimbap and sundae all included, we got plenty of variety and plenty to eat. The tteokbokki was obviously delicious, and the sundae, gimbap and fried snacks were all good too — a satisfying meal. It was originally meant to be dinner but ended up becoming an impromptu snack.

Mild wheat rice cake tteokbokki: how hot is it?

Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki lets you choose the spice level when ordering, and since I can't handle spicy food these days, I went with mild. The mild option has almost no heat, so I think even kids who can handle a little spice could eat it.

The sauce was so good that we dipped the gimbap, fried snacks and sundae in it too. The rice cakes are wheat-based (milddeok), so they're soft and soaked up the sauce nicely.

What comes in the fried snacks: vegetable, kimmari, squid, mandu, sweet potato

The fried snacks in the Hyeonseonine Set were vegetable, kimmari (seaweed noodle roll), squid, mandu (dumpling) and sweet potato, all cut into easy-to-eat pieces, which I liked. They're tasty dipped in soy sauce, and even better dipped in the tteokbokki sauce.

The sundae (Korean blood sausage) was chewy and delicious too. My husband had been craving sundae for a while, and he said he was happy to see it in the set. Made me proud~

The gimbap came as bite-sized mini rolls. They were rolled nice and plump, so they were filling too.

Is the Hyeonseonine Set worth it for two?

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch was a great spot that works for both takeout and dine-in. The tteokbokki is genuinely delicious, and since you can choose the spice level, even people who can't handle spice can enjoy it — a solid tteokbokki restaurant in Yeouido. It was satisfying enough that I'd want to come back again.
