Gangdong egg shop for mentaiko omelet: Fresh Farmer
In short
Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store is an egg shop in Gangdong, Seoul, selling animal-welfare fertilized eggs. I compared shell-number 1 and 2 eggs as fried eggs and in a mentaiko omelet, and both were rich and not fishy. Verdict: a worthwhile stop for choosing better home-cooking eggs.

Fresh Farmer, an egg shop near Dunchon-dong Station
So many different things have been opening up in our shopping complex lately, and since I live with my boyfriend, I’ve become interested in ingredients for home cooking. Eggs especially!! I paid attention to shell numbers when buying eggs before and could definitely tell a difference, so when I spotted an egg specialty shop in the complex, I went to Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store (프레시파머 올림픽파크 포레온 직영점). It is right inside from the Mikado Sushi side, so it is easy to find without getting confused.

Choosing after reading about eggs and the different varieties
I liked that there were detailed explanations about eggs when I went in. Hearing that these eggs are the top seller at demanding department stores made me even more excited. Eggs are said to be a complete food that our bodies absorb 100%. Until now, I had only judged eggs by taste rather than eating them for health, so it made me realize this is why you should look carefully before buying.

There were many kinds of eggs for sale, and the various documents, including patents and R&D certifications, made them feel even more trustworthy. I heard many residents already receive Fresh Farmer eggs through a subscription. There are especially lots of people raising children in our complex, so I think these things would matter even more.

The eggs are sorted and organized like this, and you simply choose the product you want and buy it. The explanations were all written out carefully, so I compared them and chose what I liked. If it is your first time, trying different shell numbers like I did and then settling on one afterward seems like a good idea.
Fresh Farmer may be new to some people, so to put it simply: they handle only animal-welfare eggs and sell only top-grade shell-number 1 and 2 eggs.

They say the DHA content is 15 times that of regular eggs and that there is no fishy taste. If that distinctive eggy smell has bothered you when eating eggs, I think it would be really nice to come look around Fresh Farmer.

Unstaffed purchases and egg subscription sign-up
Because it is unstaffed, the buying process was easy and convenient too. Fresh Farmer’s hens are said to grow up eating feed made with precious ingredients, like the nine-dish royal table once served to kings. Eggs laid by such healthy hens might be like a tonic all on their own, right?
This was the subscription application form, and I am going to apply after trying them this time. Honestly, just eggs can make a whole meal in no time…🩵

Shell-number 1 and 2 eggs: the difference in fried eggs
I bought shell-number 2 animal-welfare fertilized eggs, produced with advanced smart-farm technology for peace of mind, and shell-number 1 free-range fertilized eggs.

The packaging was safely done like this, so it was neat, and I think I could refrigerate them in this state without moving them to another container.
Number 1 is on the left and number 2 is on the right. The shell-number 2 eggs are said to come from hens raised only on corn feed, which gives them a deeper, nuttier flavor. So number 2 was a little more my style too! This is how they looked fried! Isn’t it fascinating that the colors are different?
I could taste a slight difference too, but what they had in common was that both tasted nutty and fresh, without any fishiness.

And you could tell they were truly fresh not just from the taste but from the result too: when I pressed on the yolks to break them, they held up with such springiness, haha.

A moist mentaiko omelet made with shell-number 2 eggs
The next day, I made a mentaiko omelet. I whisked it together rather roughly, so you can see a lot of white bits, hehe.

This omelet was made with shell-number 2 eggs, and isn’t the color so pretty? It was super nutty and delicious too.

So moist inside…! If you love eggs but have always just grabbed whatever at the supermarket, I recommend trying Fresh Farmer. You can taste eggs that are truly on another level.
