Gangdong egg shop for welfare-certified eggs: Fresh Farmer

In short

Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store is an egg specialty shop in Gangdong, Seoul. I compared shell-code 1 free-range eggs and shell-code 2 hen-friendly eggs, then bought animal-welfare fertilized eggs and organic free-range fertilized eggs. A worthwhile stop for households that eat eggs often and want to compare production conditions.

Eggs are an ingredient I eat almost every day, so I usually buy them looking only at the price or size, haha.

This time, while visiting Olympic Park Foreon, I found a slightly unusual egg specialty shop and had a look around myself.

An egg specialty shop inside Olympic Park Foreon

It was Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store. What especially caught my eye as soon as I entered was information about Son Yeon-jae, the former national rhythmic gymnastics representative, haha.

In-store information about Son Yeon-jae

The shop introduced these as premium eggs that Son Yeon-jae subscribes to and eats, and apparently she recently shared herself grocery shopping with Fresh Farmer eggs. Since becoming a mom, she says she carefully chooses even a single egg because it is food her family eats together, so I became even more curious about what kind of eggs they were, haha.

Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store is at 1360 Yangjae-daero, Foreon Station 5 B1F, Unit B122, Gangdong-gu, Seoul. The shopping complex itself is quite large, so the location can be a little confusing on a first visit, but I found it without much trouble by following the B2 ZONING GUIDE, haha.

Once inside the underground shopping arcade, the Fresh Farmer shop sits among restaurants and cafés. Rather than a typical supermarket egg section, it felt distinctive from the start as a space devoted to introducing one ingredient in depth: eggs, haha.

Production-condition information checked in the shop

The shop is compact, but once inside, there are so many egg information displays on the walls and tables. I could see explanations of animal-welfare certification, rearing conditions, non-GMO feed, free-range farming, and hen-friendly conditions, along with various certificates and patents, all at a glance, haha.

Rather than simply displaying and selling eggs, it felt like the shop actively explained “what environment the hens that laid these eggs were raised in.” Fresh Farmer stated that it mainly sells shell-code 1 free-range eggs and shell-code 2 hen-friendly eggs, haha.

There were also photos of free-range farms and hen-friendly farms, making the difference easier to understand than when looking at numbers alone. The products were divided into types such as animal-welfare fertilized eggs and 100% organic free-range fertilized eggs, too, haha.

Its official sales information also emphasizes non-GMO grain feed and animal-welfare conditions, and says it carries free-range shell-code 1 and hen-friendly shell-code 2 products.

Eggs introduced as Son Yeon-jae’s choice

Son Yeon-jae and Fresh Farmer egg poster

The space related to Son Yeon-jae was definitely what drew the most attention here, haha. A large poster introducing Fresh Farmer eggs, alongside her photo, was displayed on one wall of the shop.

Apparently, Son Yeon-jae recently shared on her own channel that she grocery shops with Fresh Farmer and chooses eggs by considering rearing conditions, feed, and nutritional content. The shop also emphasized that these are eggs she chooses and eats through a subscription, so I thought families with children might be especially interested, haha.

Fertilized eggs I bought myself

I also do not usually check shell codes in detail when buying eggs, but here I found myself reading through the differences between 1 and 2 one by one, haha. That day, I bought Fresh Farmer’s shell-code 2 animal-welfare fertilized eggs and organic free-range fertilized eggs together.

Animal-welfare fertilized eggs purchased in person

The front of the packaging made labels such as animal welfare, antibiotic-free, and HACCP easy to see, and I could also check the laying date and use-by date on a sticker, haha. Eggs may all look similar on the outside, but when you consider the hens’ rearing conditions and even their feed, there are more points to compare than I expected. For households that eat eggs often, comparing these differences firsthand could be interesting, haha.

Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store felt like a place where I went to buy one carton of eggs and came out having properly learned about animal welfare and shell codes, haha. I first became interested because the eggs were introduced as premium eggs that Son Yeon-jae chooses and eats through a subscription, but seeing the production-condition and certification materials in person made it even more memorable. If you are looking for animal-welfare eggs or free-range fertilized eggs near Olympic Park Foreon, it may be worth stopping by to compare them, haha.
