We wanted something simple but filling for the road, so we stopped by Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch on the first floor of First Plaza in Cheonan.

Being able to use the building's basement parking lot made it convenient to visit by car too. Since we still had to drive on to Onyang Hot Springs after eating, easy parking was a big plus for us.

Inside Ganghan Sushi: the room and tablet ordering

Inside, Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch had a long, narrow layout with tables neatly arranged, and the overall vibe was bright and comfortable. It looked good for a relaxed solo meal, and just as nice for a cozy meal for two.

Every table had its own ordering tablet, so we could browse the menu at leisure and order and pay all through it. We chose the Ganghan Sushi 12 pieces and the Ganghan Special Sushi 12 pieces, listed as the #1 best-seller. At ₩14,000 and ₩17,000 respectively, ordering both let us compare and taste side by side.

Candy placed on each table
Neatly kept utensils in the drawer

A nice little touch — there was candy on every table. Since the place seemed fairly newly opened, the utensils in the drawer looked well kept and clean too.

Ginger and pickled radish were already set out on the table, which was convenient — and they tasted great too.

What comes with every sushi set at Ganghan Sushi

At Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch, ordering sushi automatically gets you udon, seafood croquette, miso soup, and washed aged kimchi on the side. I liked that we didn't have to order extras separately to make it a full meal. It would suit anyone looking for a good-value lunch spot in Buldang-dong, too.

The soup wasn't too salty, which paired perfectly with the sushi.

Sushi alone might feel a bit light, but with the udon, croquette, and miso soup together, we ended up surprisingly full.

Ganghan Sushi 12 pieces vs Ganghan Special Sushi 12 pieces: what's the difference?

Shortly after, colorful sushi arrived neatly arranged on a long wooden plate.

The regular Ganghan Sushi already felt solid, but the Special Sushi offered a wider variety, which made it feel even more generous.

With salmon, tuna, shrimp, white fish, and egg sushi among others, it was fun picking through each piece one by one. It looked appetizing too, and the fish-to-rice ratio was just right.

Both sushi sets placed side by side on the table

If you're searching for sushi in Buldang-dong, you can pick either the regular set or the special set depending on your taste and how hungry you are. The warm udon that came with it was just the thing to take the edge off our road-trip hunger.

Since the two of us each ordered a different set to share, we got to try a wide range of sushi — which was great.

Lifting a bite of udon noodles

The chewy noodles and warm broth settled our stomachs nicely, and the crispy seafood croquette was a great thing to alternate with the sushi. The washed aged kimchi wasn't salty or sharp — it was clean and refreshing, resetting our palate between bites.

Shrimp sushi wrapped in gamtae seaweed

The shrimp sushi wrapped in gamtae (sweet seaweed) was really delicious too. With reasonable prices and such a varied spread, this is a place I'd happily recommend as a sushi spot in Cheonan.

Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch, a spot we stumbled onto along the way to Onyang Hot Springs, gave us a variety of sushi and warm udon in a clean, pleasant space — and we got to continue our trip in good spirits afterward.
