Minhone Meat House Buldang Branch

I'd been craving good meat for a while, so my family and I headed to Minhone Meat House Buldang Branch, a Cheonan BBQ restaurant in Buldang-dong. It wasn't hard to find since it's right in Buldang-dong, and best of all, we could use the mall's parking lot, which made parking a breeze. When you're eating out with a kid, food matters, but honestly, easy parking is a pretty big deal too. On that front, this was a stress-free visit.

This Buldang-dong restaurant in Cheonan is located in the Jewell shopping complex, so parking and access were both great, and being a neighborhood BBQ spot, there was decent foot traffic too. Even on a weekday evening, the dining room was packed — it's clearly a great spot for both company dinners and family meals haha :-)

What kind of banchan do they serve?

Usually when I think of a BBQ restaurant in Buldang-dong, I picture kimchi, scallion salad, maybe some lettuce wraps — but here the side dishes were surprisingly varied, so it was fun trying them one by one. From seaweed chogochujang (vinegared red pepper paste) to seasoned pepper pickles and pickled radish strips, there was a nice range of banchan that paired well with the meat.

Depending on which banchan you pair with each bite of meat, the flavor shifts a little, so I kept coming up with new combinations. Samgyeopsal can get greasy if you eat too much of it, but the tangy and spicy side dishes cut through the richness nicely.

Thin-cut old-style samgyeopsal

Thin pork belly styled like frozen samgyeopsal

The meat we ordered was thin-cut old-style samgyeopsal, and at first glance it looked a lot like the frozen thin-sliced pork belly that's popular these days. Being sliced thin, it cooked fast on the grill, so we could eat the golden, well-cooked meat right away.

Thick-cut pork belly is delicious too, but sometimes you're just craving this thinner style. Especially when you're mixing and matching with lots of banchan, this style of samgyeopsal seemed to suit it even better.

When you go to a BBQ restaurant with a kid, the adults are fine with meat, but there's often not much on the menu for a child. Minhone, though, has soy sauce egg rice, which made a great order for the kid. Mixing the rice with egg and adding small pieces of cut-up meat, my kid actually ate quite well.

So that day, the adults enjoyed delicious samgyeopsal while the kid had soy sauce egg rice with bits of meat, and it turned out to be a very satisfying family meal. Best of all, since it was thin old-style samgyeopsal, the meat cooked quickly, and the variety of banchan made for a fun mix-and-match eating experience.

Minhone's menu actually includes not just soy sauce egg rice but doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), steamed egg, nurungji (scorched rice), and cold noodles — plenty of meal options, so it seems like a solid pick for a family visit. If you're craving meat in Buldang-dong and want somewhere with dishes the kids can enjoy too, this could be a good choice.
