Cheonan BBQ with pork ogyeopsal and kimchi jjigae: Cham Dwaejitgan

In short

Cham Dwaejitgan Cheonan Dujeong Branch is a rice-husk-smoked charcoal BBQ restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan. The writer ordered four cuts — Jirisan black pork ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), black pork neck, cham-samgyeopsal and kkotmoksal (marbled pork neck) — with kimchi jjigae and a bowl of rice, and the owner and staff grilled everything at the table so the group could just sit and talk. The best bite was meat, minari and mushroom wasabi wrapped in a slice of potato.

Today I want to introduce a BBQ restaurant that ended up being one of the most satisfying I've been to in a long time. From the juiciness and flavor of the meat to the side dish spread and the friendly service, nothing was missing. This is Cham Dwaejitgan, a rice-husk smoked charcoal grill specialist in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan.

Cham Dwaejitgan in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan: smoke you can smell at the door

Cham Dwaejitgan Cheonan Dujeong Branch is a rice-husk smoked charcoal grill restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan. I like pork and often go looking for BBQ places, and this one had that distinctive savory smoked aroma drifting gently from the entrance, which immediately raised my expectations. If you're serious about meat, this is not a place you can just walk past.

Inside, a clean and pleasant interior greeted me. Even with grill tables, everything was managed without any stickiness, which was a great first impression. The tables were spaced generously too, making it a good pick for family gatherings or get-togethers with friends — really a solid recommendation for Dujeong-dong samgyeopsal, company dinners, or BBQ in general.

What we ordered at Cham Dwaejitgan and which side dishes come free

At Cham Dwaejitgan we ordered the signature cuts — Jirisan black pork samgyeopsal (pork belly), black pork neck meat, cham-samgyeopsal, and kkotmoksal (flower pork neck) — plus kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) and rice to round out the meal. The basic banchan (side dishes) that arrived right after ordering were already a cut above.

The basic banchan included tangy scallion salad and fresh wrap vegetables, plus kimchi and bean sprout salad that get grilled right on the pan, along with a generous helping of fragrant minari (water dropwort). On top of that came potato slices, cheongyang peppers, and mushrooms to round out the meat's flavor — a really solid lineup.

Is the kimchi jjigae worth adding to the pork order?

The kimchi jjigae we ordered separately was truly a work of art. Loaded with big chunks of tofu and pork, the broth was rich and deep, spicy yet comforting, making me want to finish a bowl of rice even before the meat was fully cooked.

Mixing a spoonful of the stew into the hot rice felt so satisfying and filling. It's the perfect pairing to eat alongside the grilled meat, so if you visit, I definitely recommend ordering this kimchi jjigae too.

Four cuts compared: black pork ogyeopsal, neck, cham-samgyeopsal, kkotmoksal

We additionally ordered Jirisan black pork samgyeopsal, neck meat, cham-samgyeopsal, and kkotmoksal. You could tell at a glance just how fresh and high-quality the meat was. The ratio of bright red lean meat to fat was perfect, and with the initial rice-husk and charcoal smoking process already done, the savory meat aroma filled the air even before it hit the grill.

The staff grill every cut for you at the table

One of the biggest perks of Cham Dwaejitgan is that the owner and staff grill everything for you! At gatherings or company dinners, someone often ends up too busy grilling to actually eat, but here, with the meat grilled expertly and attentively by the staff, all we had to do was chat and enjoy — so comfortable and nice.

The sight of the meat turning golden brown over a fierce charcoal flame was mouthwatering just to look at. Every time the scissors cut through, the juices poured out like crazy. From the chewy texture of the pork belly to the soft, savory flavor of the kkotmoksal and cham-samgyeopsal, each cut had its own clear charm.

I tried a well-cooked piece of meat plain first, without any sauce. The outside was crisp, and the moment I bit in, juices burst through my mouth. The subtle rice-husk smoke aroma completely erased any gamey smell, letting me enjoy it cleanly without any greasiness.

The owner's potato-slice wrap with meat, minari and mushroom wasabi

The owner kindly explained a delicious combo — placing the golden-grilled meat on top of a grilled potato slice, then adding fragrant grilled minari and a touch of mushroom wasabi, and wrapping it all up together.

Following the instructions and taking a bite, the earthy texture of the potato, the meat's juices, the fresh aroma of minari, and the pungent umami of the mushroom wasabi came together perfectly — it was truly an eye-opening flavor! If you visit, definitely try this combo. And whatever else you might need, the self-bar was neatly stocked so you could just help yourself.

The neck meat and kkotmoksal were also excellent, moist and never dry. Paired with minari, kimchi, and bean sprouts grilled in the meat's own fat, it kept going without ever getting tiresome. Since real care goes into both the raw meat and the smoking process, everything paired well no matter what banchan you combined it with.

On the way out: the free '0 won service' station

On the way out after our meal, there was a thoughtful '0 won service' zone set up for guests. From chilled yogurt to dessert candy, deodorizer, mouthwash, phone chargers, and hair ties, everything needed was neatly laid out, letting me finish the visit on a happy note right up to the last moment.

With delicious meat, a generous banchan spread, and kind, attentive staff-grilled service, everything was pretty much perfect — I plan to come back soon with friends. If you're looking for a high-quality BBQ restaurant, definitely give this place a visit!
