Seongdong, Seoul Korean beef course restaurant: Marblejeong

In short

Marblejeong is a Korean beef restaurant in Seongdong, Seoul, where I returned for its ₩99,000 per-person 1++ Korean Beef Special A Course. The staff grilled the beef and the meal was filling from yukjeon through naengmyeon, though the price felt steep.

I returned to Marblejeong (마블정) in Seongsu, where I had eaten last year. We chose the 1++ Korean Beef Special A Course again so the two of us could eat slowly and talk.

This visit was sponsored, and I personally paid about ₩80,000 extra.

Where is Marblejeong, and when is it open?

The address is 57 Seongsuil-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea, 2F. According to the original post, its hours are 11:00–24:00 on weekdays and 11:00–23:00 on weekends, with last orders at 23:00 and 22:00 respectively.

Is the atmosphere good for a date or work dinner?

Each time I visit, the interior feels neat. The staff were attentive, and it was not overly noisy, making it comfortable to talk and eat slowly. There are rooms for two to 20 people, so I thought it would work for a meal for two or a work dinner.

What does the Korean beef A Course cost, and how does it begin?

I ordered the same 1++ Korean Beef Special A Course as last year. At ₩99,000 per person, it was not a price point that felt easy to spend.

The abalone porridge that arrived first was mild and nutty. The yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) also felt fresh, but the yukjeon (pan-fried battered beef slices) impressed me more. I especially liked wrapping it with the hwangtae muchim (seasoned dried pollock) served alongside.

Which cuts of Korean beef are served, and do staff grill them?

The three Korean beef cuts served this time were sirloin, jebi churi, and chadolbagi. There was a generous amount of meat and side dishes; my companion was satisfied with the portion, and I ate until I was full too.

The staff grilled the cuts from leaner to fattier. Smoke was drawn down beneath the grill, so I could eat comfortably with less worry about my clothes picking up a smell.

I also liked that, on request, they adjusted the grilling pace to match our pace of eating. The Korean beef was tender, and the buttery grilled abalone served alongside was memorable.

What meal and dessert follow the meat?

As we ate the meat, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and fried shrimp arrived. The fried shrimp had a fairly ordinary flavor that you could find anywhere, but the doenjang jjigae had a good broth.

The doenjang jjigae cut through the richness I felt from continuing to eat Korean beef. After tasting the broth, my companion ordered an additional bowl of rice.

The dessert naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) was an appropriate portion even when I was full. I chose bibim naengmyeon, while my companion chose mul naengmyeon. The grilled LA galbi (Korean-style beef short ribs) went well with the noodles when we placed a piece on each bowl.

For the final dessert, there were melon, cherries, and yakgwa (honey cookies). The dessert seemed to change a little with each visit. The price was a burden, but after the meat, meal, and dessert, the portion was enough.

What review event was running during the visit?

At the time of my visit, there was an event offering one drink for a review posted on Naver or Google. We received two draft beers that day.
