Joining the waitlist at 5:30pm on a Friday meant a 2-hour wait for the Tapgol Set of pork belly, duck roast and pork neck, served with brisket doenjang stew at 7,000 won, steamed egg at 5,000 won and kimchi fried rice to finish. Why we chose Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch for Korean BBQ in Seoul
Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch is an outdoor BBQ restaurant at 111 Supyo-ro, 1st floor, Jongno-gu, Seoul, right beside the stone wall path near Jongno 3-ga Station. With the nice weather in September, we made an evening plan in Jongno 3-ga specifically to enjoy some proper outdoor dining.

While looking for somewhere to eat meat in Jongno 3-ga, we ended up at Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch.

Jongno 3-ga brings to mind street tents and outdoor dining vibes, and this was the day to properly enjoy that outdoor atmosphere while eating meat!!
How long is the Friday 5:30pm wait at Tapgol Gongwon?
We registered for the waitlist at 5:30pm on a Friday. A weekday Friday wait, and it took 2 hours... hahahahaha, so this is that kind of place.

Above all, what defines this place is that it's an outdoor BBQ restaurant where you grill meat at outdoor tables. It seems to be the most famous Korean BBQ restaurant in Jongno 3-ga!! We checked out a few places, and none matched this one's interior or atmosphere.

The outdoor dining atmosphere you get to enjoy in Jongno 3-ga. If you're eating meat in Jongno 3-ga on a nice-weather day, this kind of atmosphere really suits it.

What comes in the Tapgol Set: pork belly, duck roast and pork neck
The menu at Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch included flash-frozen pork belly, pork neck, duck roast, brisket, and other meat options. We ordered the Tapgol Set. The set of pork belly, duck roast, and pork neck costs the same as ordering the items individually... lol, so it's not like the set is cheaper.
We also ordered the brisket doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and steamed egg! Since we were dining outdoors, my friends had a Terra beer!! I don't drink, so I went with cola lol.

A BBQ spot with a stone wall path view — once we sat down and started grilling, the surrounding atmosphere and the chatter of other people made it feel distinctly different from eating at a regular BBQ restaurant.

Since it was so busy, paper cups and utensils were prepared in a basket next to the table.

The banchan spread and the self-bar at Tapgol Gongwon
Side dishes that go well with the meat — kimchi, bean sprouts, bracken fern, and green onion kimchi — came out first as a basket set.

While eating meat you keep reaching for more lettuce wraps or side dishes, and there's a self-bar so you can grab whatever runs low. Bracken fern and bean sprouts in particular can go straight on the grill, so we cooked them alongside the meat while it cooked — great touch!!
Aprons are also available at the self-bar!
The meat was thinly sliced, like flash-frozen pork belly, so it cooked quickly on the grill.

The meat alone was great, but grilling the side dishes that came with it was really the fun part of an outdoor BBQ restaurant.

Side dish prices and the kimchi fried rice finish
The side menu at Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch had good pairings for the meat: brisket doenjang stew ₩7,000, kimchi fried rice ₩6,000, steamed egg ₩5,000. It felt like a shame to order only meat, so we added sides too — we ordered the steamed egg and doenjang stew first, and finished with kimchi fried rice at the end, but I forgot to take a photo!!!ㅠㅠ You can't skip finishing with fried rice after eating meat!!! ㅠㅠ I really forgot the photo.

A piece of flash-frozen pork belly with grilled kimchi was definitely tastier than the meat alone, and since we're all living solo it's rare to grill meat like this, so it was a satisfying night out after a while.

Outdoor tables after sunset, and the 90-minute limit
Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch really comes into its own once the sun sets and the lights turn on — the atmosphere gets so much better. The surrounding greenery mixed with the lighting was prettier than expected.
It's a different feeling from the busy main pojangmacha (street tent) street of Jongno 3-ga — eating meat outdoors here let us soak up Jongno's atmosphere in a different way.
On weekends or holidays, the time limit might be capped at 90 minutes, so keep that in mind if you're planning to sit and linger. We were there for exactly 90 minutes~~~~~ Great atmosphere, great taste, a very good choice!!
