Self-cook octopus hotplate near Mukho Station, Donghae: Onda
In short
Onda Donghae Mukho Main Branch is a seafood hotplate and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) restaurant on Ilchul-ro in Donghae, Gangwon, near Dojjaebigol Sky Valley. Three of us visited and ordered the octopus, seafood and beef belly hotplate for two plus rice balls, cooking it ourselves at the table — the octopus and abalone had no fishy smell and the side dishes were generous. There is usually a wait at Onda, but with a high chair and a baby crib on hand it is worth recommending for a family travel lunch.

How does the wait list at Onda work?
True to its reputation as a Mukho travel hotspot, there's a wait here. When you arrive, you write your name on the waitlist and wait in the waiting room until you're called :)

Three people, two servings of the octopus, seafood and beef belly hotplate
We ordered the octopus-seafood-beef belly hotplate for two, the most famous dish at Onda Mukho in Donghae! We came as a group of three but ordered the two-person size since we were also having drinks — and it turned out to be plenty, filling us right up 🪽

This Mukho, Donghae restaurant also runs a Naver review event, so make sure to grab a free drink, rice ball or fried rice out of it~~

Restrooms and baby facilities at Onda
There's a restroom on the second floor — go inside and you'll find the women's restroom.

There's also a baby crib and high chair, making this a great pick for lunch or dinner near Mukho Station when traveling with family.

Side dishes and how to cook the hotplate yourself
The side dishes included seasoned lettuce salad, braised potatoes, diced radish kimchi, white kimchi, seasoned pickled radish, macaroni salad, seasoned bean sprouts and more!! Generous side dishes right from the start.

And the octopus seafood hotplate isn't cooked by staff — you cook it yourself! There's a friendly guide explaining how to cook it for the best taste, so be sure to check it 💭

The rice balls at Onda
We were hungry so we also ordered a rice ball — it was a generous portion, with seaweed, pickled radish, mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce mixed in, and it was delicious.

Octopus, seafood and beef belly hotplate for two: how it tasted
You cook the octopus-seafood-beef belly hotplate yourself, and the red broth is loaded with glass noodles, octopus, shrimp, abalone and more seafood — a great restorative Mukho lunch spot 🫧

See that plump octopus leg… it wasn't fishy at all, and the moment you bite in you can taste how fresh it is!!

The abalone was fresh too — officially a real Mukho, Donghae must-visit.

Packed with bok choy, mushrooms, bean sprouts and beef belly too — a great spot to bring your parents.

The combo of bean sprouts + beef belly + octopus... need I say more. Dip it in wasabi soy sauce and it just melts 😳

And you just can't resist a soju with this ~~ 🫧
