Gwangju Italian restaurant with kung pao chicken pilaf: Bueokgan
In short
Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is an Italian-style restaurant in Seo-gu, Gwangju. I ordered seafood tomato pasta, kung pao chicken pilaf, and jambon pizza, and loved that the staff carefully checked the spice level for a child. Verdict: a beautiful, satisfying spot I want to revisit for more of the menu.

The cool autumn breeze is finally starting to blow, haha. Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is the perfect brunch café for autumn days in Sangmu District! The interior is so pretty and the food quality is great too—definitely a delicious place I’d revisit!

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch atmosphere and visitor information
This is Bueokgan Sangmu Branch in Maewol-dong, Sangmu District! Isn’t the interior so pretty?? I heard it was created around the concept of an Italian vintage hotel, inspired by the Titanic’s banquet hall.

There’s a parking lot behind the restaurant, so it was easy to use. If you’re looking for a Sangmu District restaurant with convenient parking, so good! If it’s full, you can use the parking lot at the Mudeung Church next door, apparently! ♡ Sangsaeng Card and Onnuri payments are accepted too.

The interior is even prettier~~ It genuinely felt like I’d come to a luxurious hotel banquet hall, haha. It’s just right for a date or gathering.

Menu and spice adjustments
Here’s the menu at Bueokgan, a great brunch spot in Sangmu District~ There are lots of choices including soup, salad, pasta, pilaf, risotto, steak, and pizza, plus set menus and wine, haha. I also loved that spicy dishes can be adjusted. That’s something you really have to check when you’re out with a child.
Bueokgan had recommended dishes, so I’m sharing them!
- Pastry soup
- Basil pesto cream pasta
- Lasagna
- Kung pao chicken pilaf
- Jambon pizza

I ordered seafood tomato pasta for ₩19,000, kung pao chicken pilaf for ₩22,000, and jambon pizza for ₩24,000. When I asked for the kung pao chicken pilaf to be non-spicy, the staff member thoughtfully checked whether I’d also like the seafood tomato pasta made non-spicy, since it could be spicy for a child! I think little considerations like this are what make people come back.

Jambon pizza and seafood tomato pasta
Our dishes arrived. The pizza looks incredible, right? Hahaha. There’s a reason I recommend this as a great Sangmu District brunch spot.

I’ve been really into jambon lately, so I ordered the jambon pizza without hesitation. The crust isn’t thin—it’s wonderfully chewyㅠㅠ I’m someone who thinks half of a pizza is the crust, and Bueokgan’s crust gets my approval.

There was so!! much!! jambon on top that my mouth was full of happiness..♡ They also serve jalapeño Tabasco, and it’s way more delicious when you dip it in that..!! I had the Margherita before, and that was tasty too. You absolutely have to try the pizza at Bueokgan in Sangmu District!!

My beloved seafood tomato pasta, haha. It comes with shrimp, green mussels, and Manila clams. The shrimp were nice and big, so it passes!! The tomato sauce was rich and the noodles were cooked just right. It comes in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), and you know how that somehow makes it taste even better??

Kung pao chicken pilaf with a lovely garlic aroma
Next up was the kung pao chicken pilaf. The moment I took a bite, the garlic aroma came through, and it was light and savory—totally my kind of pilaf. This was ranked fourth among the recommended dishes, and I completely agree. It was the dish I ate almost all of, haha. The chicken on top wasn’t tough at all; it was soft and so delicious.
A Sangmu District brunch favorite where we scraped our plates clean! Every dish was a success, and above all, the atmosphere was so lovely that I truly felt refreshed. I’d visited before, and I think I’ll return again to try other dishes. If you’re looking for a Sangmu District date spot or a great Italian restaurant, I highly recommend Bueokgan Sangmu Branch :)
