Daegu Korean BBQ pork belly and ribs: Gankeun Galbi

Today, I visited Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch (간큰갈비 성서점), a great Daegu spot for a family meal or company dinner. I love meat so much that I often find myself looking for good-value barbecue restaurants. I loved that Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch offers unlimited meat and access to a self-bar, too!

Location and atmosphere at Gankeun Galbi Seongseo Branch

It is on the second floor at 71 Igokdong-ro, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, 545 m from Exit 7 of Seongseo Industrial Complex Station. Hours are 12:00–23:30 daily. There is a spacious ground-level parking lot on the first floor, so you can park comfortably and head up the stairs to the restaurant.

The restaurant was really spacious and clean, with generous space between tables, so it looked perfect for group gatherings or work dinners! There is also a large playroom for families with young children, making it easy to visit comfortably.

• Unlimited pork ribs ₩19,900 (36 months–4 years: ₩6,000 / ages 5–10: ₩10,900)
• Pork ribs + pork belly ₩21,900 (36 months–4 years: ₩6,000 / ages 5–10: ₩11,900)
• Pork ribs + pork belly + makchang (grilled pork intestines) ₩23,900 (36 months–4 years: ₩6,000 / ages 5–10: ₩12,900)
• Pork ribs + pork belly + makchang + emperor rib meat ₩28,900 (36 months–4 years: ₩6,000 / ages 5–10: ₩13,900)
• À la carte: pork ribs 200 g ₩6,900, pork belly 150 g ₩7,900, makchang 120 g ₩8,900, emperor beef rib meat 120 g ₩10,900

The self-bar includes assorted salads and vegetables, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), various fried foods, grilled hearts and gizzards, instant ramen, rice, drinks, and desserts. You can order individual portions of à la carte meat, but the first order must be at least three servings, and the side self-bar is not available with à la carte orders.

From the unlimited menu, we chose the pork ribs + pork belly option! I loved that, depending on your preference, you can have unlimited pork belly, makchang, and emperor beef rib meat as well as pork ribs.

After ordering, we went to look around the self-bar and found a serving robot waiting there. It was so cute haha. It was standing there holding wet wipes and a grill plate lol. So fascinating.

The self-bar was so well stocked with a huge variety of foods and vegetables besides the meat! There were fresh salads and wrap vegetables, tteokbokki, assorted fried foods, ⭐️chicken⭐️, make-your-own instant ramen, and unlimited rice. Drinks and desserts were ready too, so we could finish the meal nicely 👍🏻

These are the side dishes we picked out, all our favorites 🤤 Since you can take what suits your taste, there is no need to leave anything behind, which is great.

Thick pork belly and charcoal-grilled pork ribs

We started by putting the thick, fresh pork belly sprinkled with pepper on the grill. Sizzle sizzle 🥩 I can't believe this quality is unlimited refill...,

We absolutely devoured it haha. Not only was the meat high quality, it tasted so good. Wrapping the pork belly dipped in onion sauce in lettuce was seriously delicious ❤️❤️

Ask for a grill change before the pork ribs

If you are having pork ribs after pork belly, ask them to change the grill plate! We did not know and grilled ours on the pork-belly plate before changing it lol. Be sure to request a new grill before eating the ribs! Since they change it so you can grill the well-marinated pork ribs over charcoal, they were juicier, more tender, and delicious 💖

Instant ramen and a playroom, too

I wanted doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), but the smell of ramen was drifting over, so I held off on the stew and made ramen instead! You just set down the pot and it dispenses the right amount of water automatically, then add the seasoning and noodles and come back after some time haha. There were buttons to add more water or cook it longer according to your taste, which was nice.

Before leaving, I looked around the playroom. It had all sorts of areas set up for children to play, so it looked really great for eating out with kids! haha. Being able to enjoy a wide range of quality meats and such a generous self-bar to your heart's content at a reasonable price made for a very happy dinner.
