After-work gukbap and a free sundae plate in Iksan: Sumine Gukbap

On a weekday after work, I was craving hot gukbap — Korea's ultimate soul food — and heard about a new gukbap spot that opened up in Mohyeon-dong, so I went to check it out 😊

It's located right across from Lotte Cinema in Iksan, so I'd been curious about it every time I passed by~ Let me show you how it was!!

Sumine Gukbap Iksan Mohyeon branch: hours and parking

Sumine Gukbap Iksan Mohyeon branch is open 10:30–22:00, and closed every Tuesday. No break time on weekends or holidays.

There are three parking options.

• 1️⃣ Ground-level lot inside the building: enter through the alley between S Mobile and LG U+, it's on the left near the building entrance
• 2️⃣ Basement lot inside the building
• 3️⃣ The lot in front of Mart Day

Sumine Gukbap Iksan Mohyeon branch has high chairs ready, so it's easy to bring babies along, and

the tables are spaced generously so you can eat comfortably!

There are also 2-seat tables that don't feel awkward if you're eating alone or with one other person,

and wide seating that works well for group visits too, so it's a space that suits anyone!

Sumine Gukbap menu and how kiosk ordering works

Let's take a look at the menu~ It's posted large on the wall too, but ordering from the kiosk was easier since it has reference photos to help you choose (∗˃̶ ᵕ ˂̶∗) You can also pay all at once without getting up from your seat! Combined payment, pre-payment, and post-payment are all possible, so feel free to pick whatever's convenient ˚. ᵎᵎ

There was a wide variety — pork gukbap, beef gukbap, side dishes, and even alcohol!

Takeout and delivery are both available, so you can enjoy it at home too (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)

Even the drinking water was no ordinary thing...! Instead of regular barley tea, it was labeled Jirisan sanghwang mushroom tea, which made me feel healthier just drinking it haha

Free rice refills and the self-serve side dish bar

At Sumine Gukbap Iksan Mohyeon branch, if you run out of rice, you can help yourself for free at the self-serve corner in front of the kitchen. Maybe because the brand started from Kim Soomi's home-cooking philosophy, the generosity really showed 🥺

The self-serve bar has extra side dishes, peppers, and ssamjang, and the house-made kimchi is genuinely delicious!! .𖥔 ݁ ˖ Since it's precious food, take just as much as you'll eat so nothing goes to waste 😝

You could choose not just a drink but a side dish too!! Fried mandu (dumplings) or a half plate of sundae were both options, which was amazing ㅠㅠ We picked the half plate of sundae and enjoyed a really generous serving 🔥

How do Sumine Gukbap's osori gukbap and sundae gukbap taste?

Everything's arrived!

Milky white soup and perfectly ripened kimchi!!

At Sumine Gukbap Iksan Mohyeon branch, fresh pork bones and lean meat are simmered for a long time into a rich broth, generously loaded with chewy sundae and organ meats for a really filling meal! (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) ‹𝟹 The harmony of the broth — made using Kim Soomi's signature recipe and a variety of ingredients — with the rice is superb~

We ordered osori gukbap (left) and sundae gukbap (right)!

The broth is very milky white and deep in flavor, so just adjusting the seasoning to taste makes it great!! ｡𖦹°‧ The organs were tender and really delicious!

You can grab salted shrimp, dadaegi, and perilla seed powder from the self-serve corner to make it even tastier ♥︎

Even though it's not the large size, the generous amount of ingredients is a work of art 🤤 My favorite part of sundae organs is osori gamtu (a specific organ cut), which is a specialty piece you don't often get to eat much of — but Sumine Gukbap Iksan Mohyeon branch has a gukbap loaded with just that, so I picked it right away!!

Also, while other gukbap places usually use regular glass noodles, Sumine Gukbap Iksan Mohyeon branch used slightly thicker Chinese glass noodles!! That gave it a more distinctive chew~

The side order: half plate of sundae

Here's the half plate of sundae we ordered as a side! Two kinds of sundae came out, and they were great dipped in vinegared gochujang or added right into the gukbap~ The sundae was packed full of meat, giving it a nice chew, and there was no gamey smell at all — really delicious

My companion added rice twice and finished it all 🤣🤣 If you're craving the taste of home-cooked care and effort, I recommend Sumine Gukbap Iksan Mohyeon branch, which packs simplicity and deep flavor into a single bowl of gukbap~
