Whenever I want a warm, filling meal, I go looking for good gukbap spots in Iksan. Today's post is a takeout and visit review of Sumine Gukbap's Mohyeon branch, a Mohyeon-dong favorite!
Where is Sumine Gukbap in Mohyeon-dong, and where do you park?
Sumine Gukbap Mohyeon branch is at 136 Baesan-ro, 103ho, right across from Lotte Cinema in Mohyeon-dong, so it's super easy to reach on foot. Hours are 10:00–22:00, with last order at 21:30.
Parking info: the building has a basement parking lot, so you can drive over without worrying about parking at all!

Going out the back door of the restaurant connects you directly to the building lobby and the basement parking elevator!

After parking, you can walk straight in through the back door via the building's interior corridor — a really efficient and convenient route.
Right across from Lotte Cinema: the easiest stop in Mohyeon-dong
Since it's located directly across from Lotte Cinema in Mohyeon-dong, it's great for a meal before or after a movie, and with the basement parking lot fully equipped, access is perfect. It's also a great Mohyeon-dong restaurant for filling up after a walk around Baesan mountain or Mohyeon Park.

Overall the place is clean and well managed, with generous spacing between seats, so it's comfortable whether you're eating solo or with family and friends.

On one side of the restaurant there's a self-serve bar where you can freely grab extra side dishes, chili peppers, and ssamjang.

On the wall, photos and descriptions of the signature menu items are neatly displayed.
The takeout order: osori gukbap, pork gukbap and premium sundae
This time I brought home Sumine Gukbap Mohyeon branch's popular menu items — osori gukbap, pork gukbap, and premium sundae!

The seasoning soaked in deeply rather than sitting on the surface, giving a spicy yet savory depth that was really appealing. It went really well eaten together with the sundae.

They season it with domestic salted shrimp for savory depth, and a spoonful of perilla seed powder maximizes the nutty flavor. If you like a spicier kick, adding plenty of dadaegi (chili paste seasoning) lets you adjust the seasoning to your taste.
Premium sundae packed with filling
Sumine Gukbap's premium sundae is a menu item I was impressed by the moment I opened the takeout container.

Unlike ordinary sundae that's mostly glass noodles, this one was packed full of filling and blood casing, giving a nutty, chewy texture with every bite. There was no off smell at all, and the great chew showed the skill of a restaurant that really knows Iksan-style sundae-guk.

Osori gukbap: chewy badger tripe in a spicy broth
Osori gukbap is a dish with a red, spicy broth loaded with green onions.

The broth, deeply simmered from domestic pork with domestic dried radish greens added, tastes savory yet deep and refreshing.

It's generously loaded with domestic osori gamtu (badger tripe) that's chewy rather than tough, adding extra fun to the chewing and deeper flavor. It was so spicy and refreshing it felt like it cleared everything out — a dish that really hit the spot.
Pork gukbap: mild, milky broth with tender pork neck
Sumine Gukbap's pork gukbap left an impression with its milky, rich broth.

The lean meat and pork neck meat were tender rather than tough, making for a light flavor that anyone, young or old, can enjoy without any burden. The broth was rich yet had a clean finish, so I ended up finishing every last drop!
Is Sumine Gukbap worth a visit in Iksan?
Good ingredients, generous portions, and a deep, refreshing broth — Sumine Gukbap Mohyeon branch has all three. If you're looking for a hearty Iksan gukbap or a good restaurant near Lotte Cinema in Mohyeon-dong, I'd definitely recommend a visit!
