Konkuk Station ramen restaurant, spicy tonkotsu couple lunch: Hekbap
In short
Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch is a Japanese home-style rice bowl and ramen restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building on Neungdong-ro, right by Konkuk University Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. On a Sunday around noon, the writer and her boyfriend ordered the karai (spicy) ramen set for 15,500 won with fried chicken and the pork jowl rice bowl set for 13,900 won: the tonkotsu broth was rich without being heavy, and the pork jowl was spicy in a way even weak-to-spice eaters can handle. The window-side row at Hekbap works just as well for solo dining as for a Konkuk lunch date.

Hi everyone, it's Eundoori 🐻 Have any of you been to Japan? I still haven't... 😭 I keep telling myself I'll pick a date and go, but the date never gets picked, haha. I love Japanese food so much that my dream is to run over right now and eat ramen in Japan ㅠ0ㅠ

Instead of ramen in Japan, I came to Hekbap, a Japanese home-style rice bowl and ramen restaurant near Konkuk University Station :-D

What is Hekbap like at noon on a Sunday? Seating and wait
The Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch space was bigger than I expected, and the window-side row is set up so you can eat while looking out the window. It seems great for solo dining and also perfect for a date with your partner.
I visited around noon on a Sunday, and there were already one or two tables of guests, and right after we ordered, more customers started pouring in. Since it's a popular spot near Konkuk University Station, it can get crowded during lunch hours, so making a reservation in advance might be a good idea ✅

What is on the menu at Hekbap?
Hekbap's menu is broadly divided into rice bowls / soba / ramen / udon / curry / katsu, and the rice bowls and ramen seem to be the popular items. (Some dishes are spicy, so please check the spice level 🌶️!)
Hekbap apparently means 'hek' (핵, core/essential) + 'bap' (밥, meal) — the idea of putting all their effort into one bowl to offer the most delicious meal possible.

The self-serve corner had wasabi, pickled radish (danmuji), and diced radish kimchi (kkakdugi).

On the table, there were detailed instructions on how to best enjoy each menu item — rice bowls, ramen, soba, katsu, and more. Even first-timers should be able to fully enjoy Hekbap's menu.

✅ If you check on Naver, there are discount coupons or complimentary service coupons, so if any apply, be sure to mention them before you order!!

Karai spicy ramen set, 15,500 won: tonkotsu broth and fried chicken
The spicy ramen (karai ramen) set is ₩15,500. As a noodle lover, I chose the spicy ramen. It's ramen with a tonkotsu broth, char siu, and a special soy-marinated egg sauce. I ordered it as a set, which comes with a choice of fried chicken or pork cutlet — I chose the fried chicken!

The broth wasn't greasy at all and was really delicious. Eating it together with the char siu was the perfect combo ⭐️

This is the fried chicken that comes with the spicy set — it was still warm when it arrived and so delicious. Getting my protein in like this~ preventing muscle loss @🐓 The thing on top is cheese rice cake, meant to be dipped in honey, so it was a perfect sweet-and-salty combo 👍

Pork jowl rice bowl set, 13,900 won: how spicy is it really?
The pork jowl rice bowl (hangjeongsal deopbap) set 🌶️🌶️ is ₩13,900 and comes with a mini udon! My boyfriend ordered the pork jowl rice bowl set.
I'm not great with spicy food, but it was a pleasantly spicy level. Even spice wimps can eat this ~🤗 (the shishito peppers might be spicy).

The shine on that meat is unreal — genuinely delicious!!!
