Seogyo-dong Korean BBQ for two with coat cabinets: Ijjok, Seoul

In short

Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal is a Korean BBQ restaurant on Dokmak-ro 3-gil in Seogyo-dong, Mapo, within walking distance of Hapjeong Station. A couple ordered the 2-3 person set and the owner grilled the thick pork belly and pork jowl at the table, with free refills of the bean sprout pickle side dish. Cabinets for coats and bags plus fabric deodorizer made Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal an easy return whenever Korean BBQ near Hapjeong is on the menu.

I was craving pork belly and my husband was craving pork jowl, so I went looking for a good restaurant near Hapjeong Station! I found a place that serves both thick pork belly and pork jowl, so we went to check it out haha. The meat was delicious and the owner was so kind ㅠ.ㅠ Here's the review!

Where is Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal, and how far is it from Hapjeong Station?

Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal is located at B1, 20 Dokmak-ro 3-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, in a Seogyo-dong alley walkable from Hapjeong Station. You can see the standing signboard from the end of the alley, so it wasn't hard to find.

I walked over from Hapjeong Station haha. There's a signboard from the end of the alley so it's easy to find! It's really close to Hapjeong Station too. Hapjeong is always so lively whenever I come here.

There's also a waiting area in front of the restaurant!

Half-floor seating and coat cabinets: space enough for group dinners

Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal is split between the 1st floor and a half-floor level below, so a whole floor can be reserved for a group dinner. We sat in the upper half-floor space, and there was a cabinet next to us for coats and belongings.

Interestingly(?), the restaurant has another space if you go down half a floor from the 1st floor. The space is divided, so it seemed great for group dinners since you could use a whole floor!? And if you go as just the two of you and a group comes in, the space division means it won't get too noisy either.

We sat in the upper half-floor space, and there was a cabinet next to us for coats and belongings. Korean BBQ places usually leave a lot of smell on your clothes, but this smelled less and the thoughtful touch was really nice haha.

Guide on how to enjoy the meat

Read carefully if you want to enjoy Ijjok's meat properly! Fabric deodorizer, phone charging, even hair ties provided ~ what a thoughtful restaurant haha.

The restroom is indoors and really clean. There's also a garment freshener, so you don't have to worry about your clothes smelling like meat.

The menu and the 2-3 person set two of us ordered

Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal's menu is made up of set menus, à la carte meat, and full-course meals. There were two of us, but since we wanted to eat both pork belly and pork jowl, we ordered the 2-3 person set.

The menu ranges from set menus to à la carte meat to full-course meals. We ordered the 2-3 person set. Even though there were just two of us, you kind of need to eat 3 servings of meat, right~ Plus steamed egg and stew too! Being able to eat both pork belly and pork jowl already made us happy as a couple lol. The full-course menu looked perfect for a lunch visit. The meat was Doedram female pork too, so we were even more excited.

Basic side dishes set on the table

Side dishes: scallion salad and refillable bean sprout pickle

Here are the basic side dishes. They give you scallion salad and bean sprout pickle, and that bean sprout pickle was the real winner! It seemed to replace the usual pickled onion, and it was tastier than pickled onion. The owner really knows flavor.

How was the pork belly and pork jowl grilled by the owner?

At Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal, the owner grills all the meat for you. They put the meat along with potato, mushroom, and kimchi on the grill all at once, and the pork jowl cooked alongside the thick pork belly.

Look how thick and generous the pork belly is~! Next to the pork belly is the pork jowl, and it was amazing too ㅠ.ㅠ

Grill with kimchi, potato, and mushroom cooking together

Even while busy, the owner came over often to flip the meat and paid so much attention to it! They really grill it deliciously. I want to learn that grilling skill,,

Fully cooked meat neatly arranged

Once the meat is cooked, they arrange it neatly for you. At other places, once meat is done and set aside, the fat drains fast and it gets too crispy or burnt, but here — maybe because the resting spot is at the edge of the grill, or because the meat is so thick and generous — it stayed delicious until the last bite! And why is potato and mushroom grilled in meat fat always so good? haha

Steamed egg served as part of the set
Doenjang jjigae served alongside the meat

Steamed egg, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and the table setting

The steamed egg was fluffy and so delicious, and it paired really well with the doenjang jjigae~! A combo that never disappoints!

Personal plate with a sauce spot and pickled peppers

The personal plate also has a spot for sauce, so it was nice being able to keep salt and wasabi separate. The pickled peppers served with garlic were also a much-appreciated side dish that helped us inhale endless amounts of meat lol.

Thick pork belly wrapped with bean sprout pickle

Isn't the meat really thick and generous haha. Wrapped with bean sprout pickle, it's absolute honey! The combo was so good we refilled the bean sprout pickle.

A piece of grilled pork jowl

The pork jowl was also really crisp and delicious.

Final verdict on Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal

I think we'll come back whenever we're craving meat in Hapjeong haha. The owner was so kind and grilled the meat so deliciously that it was truly amazing! We were so busy inhaling the food that we forgot to take photos, so there aren't quite enough this time ㅠ.ㅠ If you want delicious meat in Hapjeong, run over to Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal!
