Seogyo-dong café open at 8am for brûlée banana soufflé: Petrico

In short

Petrico is a soufflé pancake café on Jandari-ro in Seogyo-dong, Mapo, Seoul, an easy walk or short ride from Hongdae, Hapjeong, or Mangwon. The fruit soufflé and TWG crème caramel tea are baked and brewed to order, so they took 20 to 30 minutes, and the brûlée banana with maple syrup tied the plate together. Petrico opens at 8am on weekdays and has parking, which makes it a rare spot in Seoul for dessert first thing in the morning.

I heard there was a new café in Hapjeong with amazing soufflé pancakes, so I rushed over! Petrico apparently means 'the scent that rises softly from soil after rain.' It's a Hongdae-area café dreaming of being the warmest way to start your day in Seogyo-dong.

Does Petrico near Hapjeong Station have parking?

Petrico, a café near Hapjeong Station with parking! There aren't many cafés around Hapjeong where you can actually park. On weekends parking is relatively easy, and on weekdays it's available after 6pm.

Who knew Hapjeong had a café with such a pretty interior! The moment I walked in, the space was so cozy and lovely I fell for it instantly...🤎 The staff were really kind too, which made me happy, and the restroom is inside. There were customers chatting and others working.

What I ordered

  • Fruit soufflé
  • TWG crème caramel tea
Window seat chosen at Petrico

After moving seats a few times, I settled at the spot that looked the prettiest. Petrico, the Hongdae-area café that opens first to prepare a good day — weekdays from 8am, weekends from 10am. Carefully brewed coffee, soufflé pancakes baked the moment you order, and a comfortable space to linger slowly :)

Ordered menu items on the table at Petrico

I ordered the fruit soufflé and the crème caramel tea. The soufflé is baked right after ordering, so it takes a bit of time, but that's what guarantees the quality — pancakes baked one careful layer at a time.

Personally I'm not a fan of cafés that only have rooibos, chamomile, and peppermint, so I loved that Hongdae-area café Petrico has an uncommon tea like crème caramel :) The fragrant caramel scent was lovely and paired well with the dessert. A tea I could drink without getting tired of it.

Petrico's fluffy fruit soufflé: how long is the wait?

Fruit soufflé pancake at Petrico

A soufflé pancake carefully puffed up for a soft, fluffy texture. It's the signature menu item of Petrico, the Hongdae-area café so many people have visited over the years. Cooking starts the moment you order, and it takes about 20-30 minutes to achieve that soft, risen texture — so be patient! It's all time spent for the taste, haha.

I debated the platter soufflé pancake a bit, but I couldn't give up fruit, so I went with the fruit version. Getting to eat it with a bunch of fruits like blueberry, orange, kiwi, and banana together is so, so nice. During busy hours it might take a little longer, so visit with some patience and you can enjoy the coffee and space at this Hapjeong Station café even more comfortably.

And of course, don't hold back on the maple syrup — pour it all on! A little guilt creeping in... but doesn't it look even more delicious drizzled with maple syrup? ^^

Cross-section of a fluffy soufflé pancake

Inside, it's softer than castella, like a fluffy pillow of a soufflé. I loved that there was zero eggy smell — a quality soufflé. The portion was generous too, so the price felt reasonable.

Soufflé with brûlée banana and seasonal fruit

The soufflé comes with seasonal fruit, crackly brûlée banana, house-made whipped cream, and maple syrup. I don't usually enjoy brûlée banana that much, but the brûlée banana at this Hapjeong Station café was relatively delicious and felt harmonious with the pancake.

Add the whipped cream and it's incredibly soft! The soufflé, whipped cream, maple syrup, and each piece of fruit all held their own — a very satisfying pancake. It felt more like a café than a Hongdae soufflé pancake dessert destination, but honestly, they could probably lead with the pancakes as their main draw...?

Is Petrico worth an early morning visit?

Table setup with Petrico's full dessert spread

Petrico, the Hapjeong Station café, sits in Seogyo-dong, an easy spot to reach from Hongdae, Hapjeong, or Mangwon. It's a space where coffee, dessert, and interior all naturally come together in harmony. A place to pause during a busy day and spend time as calm as the air after rain stops. Like the faint scent that lingers after rain, I think this comfortable space will stay in my memory for a long time :) If it were near my house I'd go all the time!!!
