Samseong Indian restaurant, naan instead of rice: India The Durbar

This time I wanted something a bit different, so I went to an Indian restaurant near Samseong Station! With its great value composition and mild, approachable spice level, it's a place even Indian food beginners can visit comfortably. Here's my honest review :)

India The Durbar Samseong Station Branch is on B1F, 15 Samseong-ro 84-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, about 605m from Exit 4 of Samseong Station. It's open daily from 11:00 to 23:00, with last order at 22:30.

What the basement dining room looks like

Walking into India The Durbar, I felt the distinctly exotic atmosphere you get at an Indian restaurant. (Even the owner and all the staff seemed to be locals, haha.) It wasn't overdone or gaudy — warm lighting mixed with Indian-style decor made it a comfortable place to eat.

The tables are spaced comfortably and kept neat and tidy, making it a good spot for groups dropping in for lunch or for a relaxed chat over dinner.

India The Durbar's menu and lunch sets

As befits an authentic Indian restaurant with local chefs cooking directly, India The Durbar has a really wide menu. In particular, the Lunch Set (Lunch Set A/B) served from 11:00 to 14:00 and the single-person set menus offer excellent value for what you get — I could see why office workers near Samseong Station often come here for lunch. (Great value, seriously!)

What comes in the 45,000 won Set B

Since we came for dinner, we ordered Set B, which lets you enjoy a full range of menu items.

We cleansed our palate first with the green salad that arrived,

then the boneless tandoori chicken came out, giving off a lovely barbecue smell. With no bones, it was easy to eat, and all the excess fat was gone, so it was light and clean.

The two curries: butter chicken makhani and chicken tikka masala

Then came the main event, two curries! We picked the two most popular ones — butter chicken makhani and chicken tikka masala.

[Butter chicken makhani] With tomato and cream, it was very smooth and savory — a curry that's hard for anyone to dislike.

[Chicken tikka masala] A touch of spiciness kept it from getting too rich — a well-balanced curry.

Swapping the rice for plain naan and butter naan

We ordered only naan instead of rice — plain naan and butter naan.

Wow...! I was shocked at how huge the naan was?! It's the size of three palms put together. Hahaha.

The naan, hot off the grill and chewy, was delicious dipped straight into the curry.

It's also great wrapped up with the green salad and tandoori chicken! Ordering two curries together meant we could switch between different flavors, which was nice.

Finally, we finished with a glass of refreshing, rich plain lassi for a clean, complete meal :)

Is Set B at India The Durbar worth it?
