My husband and I were planning a Hyehwa Station date around seeing a play at a mysterious PT gym, and while looking for a nice-atmosphere pasta place near Hyehwa, one restaurant caught my eye and stole my heart with its ridiculously cute duck omelette — pasta aside, that was the clincher! Let me introduce Omil, the Hyehwa Station pasta spot that was a treat for both eyes and mouth.

Where is Omil Hyehwa Daehangno? 2nd-floor entrance on Daemyeong-gil
Omil is located on the 2nd floor of 35 Daemyeong-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. On the wall going up the stairs, I spotted the rubber-duck omelette that had already gotten me excited — my heart fluttered all over again. Even the entrance door was adorable and pretty. Off to a great start!!!

Only one table left at the 11:30am opening
We showed up right at opening, 11:30am. So why were there already so many people? Aside from the reserved seats, luckily there was exactly one spot left, so we could sit right down. There were lots of couples, but thanks to the adorable rubber-duck omurice, there were also many parents with kids.

Right after we sat down, the next customers who came in had to turn back because there was no room, and people kept waiting in line.
Inside Omil: atmosphere, self-service bar and window seats
The interior at Omil felt bright and clean, while every corner was full of cute little decorations.

The self-service bar had pickles, water, and napkins, plus a phone charger, which was great — no worrying about battery while snapping endless food photos!!! Next to the self-service bar there was also a clean, gender-neutral restroom, which was convenient.
My husband had his eye on the window seats, but they were already reserved, so we could only look on. If you want that spot, I'd recommend booking ahead!!!

QR code ordering and prices for the three a la carte dishes
After we sat down, they set the table with basic utensils first, and then we ordered via QR code, the latest ordering trend. Since I'd already tried this once at Seojubang, I felt pretty proud ordering smoothly haha. They're running an event where you get a free ade with a Naver or Google app review, so it's worth joining. We ordered Salmon Steak Gnocchi (₩19,900), Jjongjjongjjong! Rubber Duck Omurice (₩16,900), and Spicy Pollack Roe Oil Pasta (₩18,900).

Salmon steak gnocchi and spicy pollack roe oil pasta: cute from the bowl up
The salmon steak gnocchi came out first — the food looked great, but the bowl was so cute it put me in a good mood right away. My husband scooped two little dishes of pickles and set them on either side of the cute gnocchi bowl like ears, and it looked just like a bear — so cute!!!

Next came the spicy pollack roe oil pasta, loaded with whole garlic cloves, which totally satisfied us as garlic lovers. And again, we fell in love with the bowl — Omil should honestly sell these bowls as merch!!!
Jjongjjongjjong! Rubber Duck Omurice and the free duck tube toy
Last but not least came the star of the show, the Jjongjjongjjong! Rubber Duck Omurice. How could anything be this cute — the little ducks made of quail eggs looked like they were sunbathing on a beach, so adorable, and the duck wearing sunglasses on a tube float was even cuter. And get this — they said the rubber-duck tube toy was ours to take home! We happily grabbed it and now it sits proudly on our kitchen sink — doing dishes just makes me happy now!!!

At Omil, dishes are made in the order tables place their orders, so each table's food comes out in a continuous sequence, which I loved. Our three dishes came out one after another too, so we could take a group shot before eating while everything was still hot — you can't skip a group shot of food this pretty!!!

Somehow it felt like it would taste even better if I picked at it with the parasol-shaped skewer, so I did just that. I folded it neatly and set it on the table, and then the kids at the next table started fighting over who'd get one, so I gave ours away. Got a thank-you from their parents for it — felt pretty proud haha.

Basil and tomato ade from Omil's review event
We joined the Naver review event and got a basil & tomato ade — even the cup was adorable, and they thoughtfully stuck in two different-design straws. The ade itself wasn't too sweet and had a refreshing taste, which was very satisfying!!!

How does the Rubber Duck Omurice taste?
I elegantly cut into the rubber duck omurice with a knife, and it sliced cleanly without losing its shape — very satisfying.

The rice had a nice chewy texture with good bite, and it paired beautifully with the moist egg sheet. The omurice sauce had a hint of pepper and a sweet-and-sour flavor that really got the appetite going.

Adding the quail eggs into the mix gave a fun, springy bite and doubled the nutty flavor — the omurice was popular enough that anyone with kids seemed to order it without fail!!!

Salmon steak gnocchi with a deep potato flavor
The gnocchi was crispy outside, chewy inside — crispy-on-the-outside-chewy-on-the-inside — with an intensely strong potato flavor. As potato lovers, my husband and I really loved that deep potato taste; anyone who likes potatoes will definitely enjoy this.

Eaten with the radish and greens on the side, it had a crisp, slightly bitter bite that added a clean, appealing contrast. We ordered it at the default spice level, and it had a subtle kick that suited us perfectly — you can ask for it spicier or milder when ordering, so adjust it to your taste whether you can't handle spice at all or love it!!!

The salmon steak had zero fishy taste, savory and salty, and paired perfectly with the mild gnocchi. Even eaten on its own, the salmon steak was delicious, with a flaky yet chewy texture that was really appealing.

The pickles weren't overly sharp or sweet — just a subtly tangy flavor that didn't overpower the food but added a nice touch of freshness, perfect as a side.

Whole garlic and greens in the spicy pollack roe oil pasta
The whole garlic cloves in the spicy pollack roe pasta were as soft as garlic in samgyetang (chicken soup), leaving only a sweet mellow flavor that made them easy to enjoy without any pressure. The pollack roe aroma spread through the dish and paired wonderfully with the spicy, savory pasta noodles.

The green vegetable, crunchy and nutty and delicious, tasted to me like sweet potato stems, though I couldn't ask the staff since they looked busy. Eating the pollack roe, whole garlic, and sweet potato stems together gave it a bit of a namul (seasoned vegetable) pasta flavor — really delicious.
The tomato in the ade was crisp, chewy, and sweet too — if you get the basil & tomato ade, make sure to eat the tomato as well!!!

Is Omil worth it for a Hyehwa date meal? The verdict
This was the painting on the ceiling of the stairs as we headed down after finishing our meal — a perfect send-off to the very end haha. If you're looking for a great meal in a lovely atmosphere for a date, I'd recommend Omil Hyehwa Daehangno!!!
