An American home-style atmosphere in a Yeonnam-dong alley
There are so many pretty spots tucked into every alley of Yeonnam-dong these days, but I found a restaurant with a truly one-of-a-kind atmosphere that delighted both the eyes and the palate! It was Hey Joji (헤이죠지), known for its American home-style food. From the exotic interior to the thoughtfully composed menu, it was such a perfect space that we couldn’t stop smiling throughout our date.

After a light walk along Yeonnam-dong’s Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, head into one of the charming little alleys and you’ll spot an exotic, appealing exterior that feels like you’ve arrived at a home in New York—or somewhere in America! The mood of the façade was so lovely from the moment we arrived that I simply had to take a proof-of-visit photo.

As soon as we opened the door, we found the interior filled with warm, cozy lighting and vintage American-inspired décor. You could tell that care had gone into every little prop, and the atmosphere was so romantic that I instantly understood why people recommend it as a Yeonnam-dong date spot.

Can you visit without a break time?
One of this place’s biggest advantages is that it doesn’t have a separate break time! So many popular spots around Yeonnam-dong close between 3 and 5 p.m., which can be awkward if you arrive at an in-between hour, right? But Hey Joji operates continuously without a break time, so it was really easy and comfortable to have a leisurely lunch or visit later in the afternoon.

Ordering the jamón butter cheddar pasta and salad
Looking over the menu, I saw a selection of American home-style dishes, from special steaks and creamy risotto to deeply savory pasta! Everything looked so delicious that we deliberated for quite a while, then ordered the recommended signature dishes: jamón butter cheddar pasta and chicken tender Caesar salad.

While waiting after ordering, I looked around the restaurant, and the wood-toned furniture and cute little decorations made every photo look like a keeper! It was also such a lovely setting for couples to have a cozy conversation that I kept thinking it was absolutely perfect for a Yeonnam-dong restaurant date.

Jamón butter cheddar pasta with rich cheese flavor
Before long, our eagerly awaited main dish, the jamón butter cheddar pasta (₩16,000), finally arrived! It came on a large, beautiful plate, and the nutty, rich aroma of cheese and deeply fragrant butter immediately hit my nose.

This dish uses short, plump rigatoni, and its chewy bite was wonderful. The deep, rich cheddar cheese sauce had soaked right into the hollow tubes of rigatoni, so the savory flavor burst through my mouth from the first bite! It was also generously topped with salty, tender premium jamón ham and crisp, well-cooked bacon, making the flavor something truly special.

You might worry that the cheese sauce could become too rich, but the perfectly measured jalapeños cut through it with a gentle kick, so I enjoyed every last spoonful without getting tired of it! Among Yeonnam-dong pasta spots, this deeply flavored sauce was easily one of the most distinctive I’ve tried. Pasta lovers really need to try it!

A chicken tender Caesar salad as generous as a main
The chicken tender Caesar salad (₩13,000), which we ordered alongside the pasta, arrived right away too! Rather than a light salad with just a few pieces of lettuce, it was presented so generously and carefully—practically like a main dish—that I was honestly surprised.

It was piled high with fresh, crisp whole romaine lettuce, with four large, golden freshly fried chicken tenders on top. Since the tenders had clearly just come out of the fryer, they were the very definition of crispy outside and moist inside!

The tangy, nutty Caesar dressing was well tossed through the romaine stems, and wrapping it around a crispy chicken tender created a perfectly balanced bite.

A bite of salty jamón butter cheddar pasta followed by a bite of refreshing Caesar salad was an absolutely perfect match! If you’re looking for pasta at a Yeonnam-dong restaurant, make sure to enjoy it with the salad too!

A Yeonnam-dong date restaurant I want to revisit with my boyfriend
Hey Joji wasn’t simply a place that sells food—it made us feel as though we had been invited into an American home and treated to a warm, delicious meal.

The portions were generous, and you could feel that they hadn’t held back on any ingredient, satisfying both value for money and value for the heart. My boyfriend was so pleased too, saying with every bite, “This is definitely a great Yeonnam-dong restaurant!”
It’s a wonderful place to come anytime you want a change of mood with your partner, even if it isn’t a special occasion, or when you want to enjoy delicious food with friends in an exotic atmosphere. The fact that there’s no break time is especially useful—you can avoid the weekend rush by coming just outside peak hours!

What a lovely time enjoying special American home-style food amid exotic, cozy décor! The romantic mood helped my boyfriend and me have an even closer, happier conversation, making it such a satisfying day!! With great food, service, and atmosphere all in one place, I’m definitely planning to return soon to try other dishes like the steak and risotto!
