Suwon hair salon: cooling scalp clinic + thick-hair cut, Yuwolae

Yuwolae Mijangwon Suwon Gwanggyo Branch is a hair salon on the 8th floor of the SK View Lake Tower Eommu-dong (office building) near Gwanggyojungang Station in Suwon, and it has had many regulars in Gwanggyo for over 10 years. The writer had a scalp clinic with a cooling shampoo and a tea tree cooling solution, then a designer cut that lightened very thick hair while keeping the heat perm; cuts cost ₩20,000–₩35,000 depending on the stylist's rank. Yuwolae Mijangwon suits anyone who wants to cool an overheated summer scalp and get a cut in one visit in Gwanggyo.

Clam hot pot near Daejeon Station, chili-free for kids: Widaehan

Widaehan Jogae Jeongol (위대한조개전골) is a clam hot pot and seafood kalguksu (noodle soup) restaurant on Daehak-ro in Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon, about 10 minutes by car from Daejeon Station. The writer visited Widaehan Jogae Jeongol with a child, added fried squid and a flying fish roe rice ball to the clam hot pot, and was able to ask in advance for the chili to be left out of the hot pot for the child. Verdict: with easy parking and generous seafood, Widaehan Jogae Jeongol is a great clam hot pot stop on the way to catch a train.

Gwanggyo cake café on a holiday: fruit in every layer, Café Diaz

Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo is a cake and dessert café on the B1 floor of the Galleria Gwanggyo department store in Suwon, where people queue to buy. On a holiday revisit, the writer ordered a fresh-fruit cake slice, an iced Americano (4,500 won) and a hot homemade lemon tea at Café Diaz and ate them in the department store's rest area. With fruit tucked between every layer, the slice stayed delicious to the last bite, so Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo is worth recommending for fresh-fruit cake in Gwanggyo.

Gwangju BBQ restaurant with juicy pork jowl seconds: Sangnok Hoegwan

Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan-gui Taejeon Branch is a briquette-grill meat restaurant on the first floor of a shopping block on Hoean-daero in Taejeon-dong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi. The meal started with 300g of pork belly and 200g of pork jowl (hangjeongsal), and the jowl was juicy enough to order a second round, followed by 4,500 won mul naengmyeon (cold noodles), 3,900 won bibimbap and free slushies for about 50,000 won for two. Sangnok Hoegwan is good value for a place where you can pick grilled meat and live-tank seafood at one table.
