Sanaendeul, an outdoor charcoal BBQ near Cheonggyesan

This is our nth visit to Sanaendeul. We love outdoor BBQ places so much that we used to come here often when we lived in Anyang. With the weather turning cooler these days, we were wondering where to go for meat and old memories brought us back.

Visiting an outdoor BBQ place again after a while, we walked in full of excitement. (Dog-friendly guests get a separate seating area.)

Is the grassy outdoor seating good with kids?

Sanaendeul is located near Cheonggyesan. Just like when we visited 5 years ago, it was striking to grill meat surrounded by such a natural landscape.

The outdoor area has this grassy yard. If you grab a seat nearby, it's great to eat while watching the kids run around.

This is our outdoor table. Once evening comes and the lights turn on, it probably feels like a campsite. We've come a few times with a friend's family too, and it seems roomy enough for a bigger group.

How to order at Sanaendeul: numbered tongs and the meat showcase

Ordering goes like this: once you grab a table, you're given a spatula marked with a number.

You fill a basket with meat, vegetables, and snacks, then tell the counter your spatula number and party size.

Meat comes in two main types, Korean beef and Jeju pork. It's a system where you pick your own cuts straight from the refrigerated showcase.

The showcase was kept clean, and prices weren't intimidating either, so next time we come with friends we'd like to try both beef and pork.

Since we were focused on pork, we ordered the Jeju pork one-plate (pork belly, neck, skirt meat, jowl). What a deal! Such great value!!!

How did the Jeju whole-pig pork taste?

We sat at outdoor table 2, and staff brought the charcoal and set up the table for us. (Setup fee is ₩3,000 per adult.)

The Jeju pork one-plate was cut into thick pieces with just the right amount of marbling, satisfying from the very first look.

The Jeju pork one-plate comes with pork belly, jowl, skirt meat, and neck — and we added jowl and heukkkodeulsal on top! Haha!!!

Once the meat hit the grill, the sizzling sound and savory smell spread around and made our mouths water.

Can you see that thick pork belly cut!!! We picked up a piece once it was cooked just right.

It wasn't chewy at all, tender with the smoky flavor unique to charcoal-grilled meat, and the kids kept fighting over pieces... haha!!! It was the kind of taste you kept reaching for!!!

Doenjang stew to finish and noodles for the children

Doenjang stew for dessert can't be skipped! For the kids' dessert, we ordered baby noodles.

The table time limit is 3 hours!!! Weekday lunch specials are also available.

Most guests eat outdoors. Here's the view from outside, looking at the folding doors to the indoor dining space.

If it rains or the weather turns cold, you can also eat indoors.
