Pohang mulhoe restaurant with generous double portions: Ppwang Mulhoe
In short
Ppwang Mulhoe is a mulhoe restaurant on the Yeongildae coast in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. My husband and I ordered double portions of spotted flounder mulhoe and squid mulhoe, and even this devoted squid-mulhoe fan was won over by the boneless, tender-chewy flounder. Verdict: a generous and satisfying stop before a Yeongildae beach walk.

Ppwang Mulhoe by the Yeongildae coast

If you come to Pohang, you simply have to have a bowl of mulhoe (chilled raw-fish soup), right? Even better when you can enjoy it looking out toward Yeongildae Beach 🌊 This time, I visited Ppwang Mulhoe, right along the Yeongildae coast.
I normally love squid mulhoe so much that I was naturally planning to order it that day too 🦑 But since I went with my husband, we ordered a double portion of spotted flounder mulhoe plus a double portion of squid mulhoe and properly compared the two.
Even I, a squid-mulhoe person through and through, was a little swayed by the spotted flounder mulhoe 😂
And I was genuinely surprised by how generous the portions of mulhoe were.
Parking and hours
On Friday and Saturday, Ppwang Mulhoe is open 10:30–23:00, with last orders at 22:00. On other days, it is open 10:30–22:00, with last orders at 21:00. There are separate restrooms for men and women, high chairs, disposable aprons, Wi-Fi, takeaway, reservations, and group dining.

There is space for around six or seven cars right in front of the restaurant. There is also a large free Yeongildae parking lot directly across the street, so parking did not seem like something to worry too much about 🚗

Yeongildae is right in front, so you can have delicious mulhoe and head straight out for a seaside walk—perfect for a Pohang travel itinerary. On a nice day especially, I think eating mulhoe while looking at the sea would be such a treat 💙 I thought it would be perfectly reasonable to put this on a Pohang must-visit list.
A spacious dining hall and group room
You can also put your name down for the waitlist! Once inside, the restaurant was more spacious than I expected. There were quite a few tables, but they were not crammed together, so it felt less stuffy while eating.
There is a group room as well as a large main dining area, so it looked suitable for a family gathering or a work dinner with several people. When we visited, there was a group that looked to be more than 50 people, along with individual diners, yet the restaurant seemed roomy enough to accommodate everyone.
There is also a review event, so make sure you do not miss it!
And then there was Ppwang Mulhoe's little pink signature touch that quietly caught my eye 🌸 Pink accents appeared throughout the restaurant, giving it a playful pop just like the name. The clean atmosphere with that pink added in was cuter than I expected 😊

Warm broth from the self bar, too
There is a self bar, so you can comfortably help yourself to anything you need! Best of all, when you start craving something warm while eating mulhoe, you can ladle out broth yourself at the self bar. For someone like me who eats maeuntang (spicy fish stew) mostly for the broth, I actually liked this setup even more.
Double portions of spotted flounder and squid mulhoe
We ordered a double portion of spotted flounder mulhoe plus a double portion of squid mulhoe.

I am normally a total squid-mulhoe person. 🦑 So honestly, the squid mulhoe was what I was most excited for at first. But after one bite of the spotted flounder mulhoe, my mind changed a little.
Oh? Maybe I should have ordered this?
That is how good the spotted flounder mulhoe was. And since we ordered both dishes in double portions, the servings were generous.
Side dishes and the self bar
The basic side dishes went well with the mulhoe, and it was convenient to use the self bar for anything we ran short of. Personally, what I liked most was that maeuntang was not automatically included just because we ordered mulhoe.
I do like maeuntang, but I tend to have just a little of it mainly for the broth. So rather than having its cost included in the meal while the main dish gets smaller, I much prefer skipping the stew and enjoying a generous main dish. That part was actually a plus for me 👍
In particular, being able to ladle as much warm squid broth as I wanted from the self bar was lovely for warming up between bites of mulhoe. Alternating the cool mulhoe and warm broth went surprisingly well together 😊
How was the double portion spotted flounder mulhoe?

This was honestly the most unexpected dish of the day. Because I usually prefer squid mulhoe, I did not expect much from the spotted flounder version, but one bite changed my mind. First of all, it was cool and clean-tasting.
The spotted flounder had its characteristic chew, but it was softer than I expected, which I loved. Most of all, there were no bones to make eating awkward, so it was easy to enjoy. With the vegetables, there was a crisp texture too, and I kept reaching for more 🥬
I think even people who enjoy raw fish but do not like textures that are too tough or rough could eat this quite comfortably. I had one bite and thought, “Oh, spotted flounder mulhoe is delicious too?” and then kept eating 😂

After enjoying the spotted flounder mulhoe as well, I thought there was no need to insist on squid mulhoe alone when looking for mulhoe in Pohang. I would recommend it if you want to try something a little different!
The generous double portion of squid mulhoe
And of course, squid mulhoe is still my favorite ❤️ But the amount was seriously no joke. When I first saw it, I wondered, “Is this really just a double portion?” There was so much squid that it felt like we had ordered even more than a double serving 😂

The squid was cut into small, easy-to-eat pieces, making it great to eat a bite at a time with the vegetables. Its satisfyingly chewy texture was absolutely there too. Best of all, because there was so much squid, it just kept appearing as we ate the mulhoe.
You hear a lot these days about squid being expensive, but even though we ordered a double portion, I found myself thinking, “Can they really give us this much?” If you normally love squid mulhoe, I think it is a choice you will not regret. Anyone who likes fresh squid mulhoe would be especially pleased 🦑

Final thoughts
Overall, this Pohang mulhoe visit was satisfying. More than anything, the fact that I—a squid-mulhoe person at heart—also really enjoyed the spotted flounder mulhoe is what has stayed with me most.
