First meal off the KTX at a Gangneung sundubu restaurant: Jeong Eunsuk
In short
Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu is a Korean soft tofu (sundubu) restaurant in Gangneung's Chodang Tofu Village, about 10 minutes by taxi from Gangneung Station. Arriving on the KTX for a late breakfast, the writer ordered the Chodang Myeongpum table for two — tofu hot pot, tofu samhap and seasoned grilled kodari pollock — and added bossam (boiled pork) for 11,000 won, asking for the hot pot seasoning on the side so the broth stayed white and mild. A child who said he wouldn't eat rice finished a whole bowl in that broth, making it a filling first meal of the trip.

As soon as we arrived in Gangneung, we headed to Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu for a late breakfast/early lunch. My husband and kid both love tofu, and in Gangneung, tofu is a pretty safe bet.
It had been a while since I'd walked through the alleys of Chodang Tofu Village, and I was surprised by how many tofu dessert shops have popped up — sundubu gelato, sundubu pudding, you name it. I was curious, but with my small appetite I decided to focus on the main meal this time and skip dessert. 😋
How to get from Gangneung Station to Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu: a 10-minute taxi
We took the KTX to Gangneung Station and went straight by taxi. It took about 10 minutes to get to Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu, close enough to make it our first stop of the trip.

- Address: 200 Nanseolheon-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea

The parking lot was fairly spacious, so it looked convenient for anyone driving in. The restroom is outside the building but was kept clean.

Naver reservation, seated right away with no waiting
We had booked ahead through Naver Reservation. When we arrived, the place was already busy — without a reservation we might have had to wait, but thanks to booking ahead we sat down and ate right away.
Next to the restaurant there was a spacious separate waiting area lined with chairs. Looking around inside, we spotted clippings from MBC, SBS, KBS, MBN and other broadcasts — the restaurant is run by Jeong Eunsuk, a certified Korean Master Chef ('Jori Myeongin').

What comes with the Chodang Myeongpum table for two, plus 11,000-won bossam
We ordered the Chodang Myeongpum table for two, which requires a minimum of two diners and comes with tofu hot pot, tofu samhap (tofu three-way platter), seasoned grilled kodari pollock, and more.
When the spread arrived all at once, it was more generous than I expected. Our kid especially loved the bossam that came with the set, so we ordered an extra bossam for ₩11,000.
Tofu samhap and seasoned grilled kodari pollock, tried for the first time
This was actually the first time I'd even heard the term 'tofu samhap.' It's a dish where you eat tofu together with bossam and gajami-sikhae (fermented flounder), and the combination of plain tofu and pork with the tangy fermented flounder was really good.
I also tried seasoned grilled kodari (dried pollock) for the first time, and the seasoning suited my taste perfectly. For anyone who wants to try a bit of everything rather than just one dish, the Myeongpum table set seems like a great choice.

White tofu hot pot with the seasoning on the side, mild enough for a child
For the tofu hot pot, we asked for the sauce separately so our kid could share it too. Cooked in plain white broth without the sauce, it was surprisingly refreshing, and I really liked that flavor. My husband, though, prefers the style where tofu's own plain flavor comes through a bit more, so this was a matter of taste.
Our kid, who had snacked so much on the KTX that they said they wouldn't eat rice at the restaurant, ended up mixing rice into the warm tofu hot pot broth and eating a whole bowl. Since they had a slight cold that day too, seeing them eat warm broth with rice was reassuring.
The hot pot also had a whole blue crab in it, and once I picked the crab meat out for them, they ate that happily too — then suddenly demanded we buy them snow crab. 😂 We came for tofu hot pot and left having already booked the next meal. Fine, I'll definitely buy it for you next time. ❤️
A filling first meal to start a Gangneung trip
When you're traveling with a kid, just having them eat well at the first meal makes you feel like the whole day is going to go smoothly. Our kid, who said they wouldn't eat rice, ended up eating bossam and mixing rice into warm broth too, which let us start our Gangneung trip in a good mood.
The tofu samhap and seasoned grilled kodari, both firsts for me, were delicious, and the staff were genuinely kind throughout the meal, which made it a comfortable dining experience.
For a family who loves tofu, Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu, a Gangneung sundubu restaurant, was a warm and satisfying way to start our trip. 😊
