Wonju restaurant in Munmak: jjukkumi deopbap rice bowl at Singi
In short
Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi is a jjukkumi (spicy stir-fried baby octopus) and naengmyeon (cold noodle) restaurant on Yeowon-ro in Munmak-eup, Wonju. Three of us shared the jjukkumi + pork belly + shrimp set for two (36,000 won) with an extra 100g of pork belly (4,000 won), shrimp mandu and a flying fish roe rice ball, ordering spice level 1 for the child. The highlight at Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi was the deopbap rice bowl mixed from the rice, seaweed flakes, flying fish roe and sesame oil — simple, generous and good value for a family dinner.

Where is Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi in Wonju?
Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi (신기칡냉면&쭈꾸미) is a jjukkumi (spicy octopus) and naengmyeon (cold noodle) restaurant at 2175 Yeowon-ro, Munmak-eup, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do (204-9 Geondeung-ri), South Korea. Open daily 11:00–21:00, break time weekdays only 15:00–17:00, with parking available.
We stopped here for dinner while out and about in Wonju. It's a 15-minute drive from Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge/Ganhyeon Recreation Area and 25 minutes from Oak Valley, so it's a convenient spot to stop on a Wonju trip or day out.
It's right on the road so it's easy to find, and there's a spacious parking lot out front.

Inside the restaurant: seating for families
Inside, Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi feels open, bright, and clean. We visited a bit late for dinner, and tables were filled here and there.

It's spacious and the tables aren't crammed together but spread out, so there's no cramped feeling — great for groups too. There are baby chairs and an indoor restroom. Good for a comfortable family meal.

The jjukkumi stir-fry comes with a bowl of rice per person. We ordered the jjukkumi+pork belly+shrimp for two with extra meat (100g pork belly for ₩4,000), plus a whole plate of shrimp mandu that our kid loves, and a flying fish roe rice ball — three of us ate until we were stuffed.

Side dishes and the muksabal (acorn jelly in cold broth)
Here's the basic side dish spread. Perilla leaves, bean sprouts, pickled radish, flying fish roe and more come out to pair with the jjukkumi, and there's a self-serve bar for extra helpings.

Ordering the jjukkumi got us a cool muksabal (chilled acorn jelly soup) on the side, and it was genuinely delicious — the perfect side dish for a hot, humid summer like this one haha.

Then out came the flying fish roe rice ball our kid loves. Formed into neat little bite-sized spheres — set complete. It pairs perfectly with the spicy jjukkumi :)

How does the spice level 1 jjukkumi, pork belly and shrimp set taste?
The whole plate of shrimp mandu and the jjukkumi+pork belly+shrimp for two both arrived.

Since we had a kid with us, we went with spice level 1, and just looking at the color you could tell it wouldn't be too spicy. The moment we ordered, you could see them stir-frying it in a big wok in the semi-open kitchen, and the smoky char smell alone was already pumping up the appetite before we'd even taken a bite.

Jjukkumi, pork belly, shrimp. Adding extra pork belly meant there was a ton of meat, which was so great haha. Between the plump, chewy jjukkumi, the tender pork, and the huge shrimp, there's real fun in picking what to eat next — I'd personally recommend the jjukkumi+pork belly+shrimp combo if you visit Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi.

How to make the jjukkumi deopbap rice bowl
A bowl of rice comes out too, so now it's time to make a deopbap (rice bowl)! Mix in the jjukkumi+pork belly+shrimp, seaweed flakes, flying fish roe, bean sprouts, and finish with a couple of swirls of sesame oil.

Ahh — so good..... Spice level 1 feels about like Jin Ramen's mild version? If you like it spicier, I'd say go for level 2 or higher.

It's delicious as a rice bowl, but if you pick out just the jjukkumi and dip it into the mayonnaise-based sauce, you get a smooth, rich flavor that takes it up a notch to a whole different taste.

I love wrapping things in lettuce — hehe. Lettuce + pickled radish, top with a piece of the jjukkumi+pork belly+shrimp, and gently place flying fish roe on top.

Shrimp mandu (dumplings) as a side
Shrimp mandu, 8 pieces for ₩6,000. Long and fairly large. They start steaming them as soon as you order, so they arrive piping hot and pair really well with the spicy jjukkumi.

Mandu with that distinctive salty, chewy shrimp texture. A dish kids and adults alike will love — I'd recommend adding it as a side.
Final verdict on Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi
Not flashy, but in a comfortable setting with food that's solid on the fundamentals, we walked in hungry from a day out in Wonju and walked out full on a satisfying, good-value meal :) The jjukkumi+pork belly+shrimp deopbap, with its clean, well-balanced seasoning and no off flavors, was excellent. For the record, I didn't try the naengmyeon, but I hear it's really good too — I plan to come back next time I'm in Wonju ♡
