I wanted a cocktail with good vibes in Hongdae today, so I went to a Hongdae cocktail bar with a bit of a twist! Instead of just walking through a door, you find a secret passage disguised as a bookshelf!! The entrance alone had me hooked — this is Bitters!! 🍸

Bitters is a concentrated flavoring liquor made by steeping plant-based ingredients like herbs, spices and bark in alcohol to create strong bitterness and unique aroma. It's an essential ingredient for bringing out flavor and balance in cocktails. Such a perfect name for a cocktail bar!

Finding the bookshelf door that opens into Bitters

Going down to the basement, you might think, "is this really the entrance?" haha. Find the hidden latch in the bookshelf and the door opens!! It felt like stepping into a secret space, so it was fun from the very start haha. The secret passage sets the mood right away!

Once the bookshelf door opens and you step inside, the atmosphere is completely different from what you saw outside. Dim lighting, rows of bottles lined up, and the bar seats and tables neatly divided! It's not too loud, so it's great for a date, and also perfect as a Hongdae spot for drinking solo. Best of all, there are so many signature cocktails that picking one is half the fun haha.

There were plenty of bar seats and lots of 2–4 person tables! And in the back, there were two 6-person tables! Looks great for group visits too haha.

This is the snack and classic cocktail menu! There's a separate menu board just for the signature cocktails, and it was so beautifully designed that browsing it and choosing were both fun!!

Ordering is done by kiosk! We got water, glasses, and pretzels as the basic snack! I love the pretzels so much haha. And when you ask for recommendations, they're happy to suggest — every staff member was super kind.

What does the Butterbeer cocktail taste like?

Butterbeer The one I was most curious about first — Butterbeer! It's a cocktail with buttered rum, butterscotch and milk. Just hearing the name makes you think of Harry Potter, so I couldn't not order it haha. It was soft and creamy, so it's a good style for people who prefer sweet cocktails over strong ones!

Valheim and Sinclair: how do the two cocktails compare?

Valheim & Sinclair Next up, two cocktails with unique names from the start — Valheim and Sinclair! Valheim has aquavit, Drambuie, bitters, pickle brine and dill, topped with a pimento olive. It really made me feel that they're using premium ingredients and paying close attention to quality!

Sinclair is a cocktail made with Islay peated Scotch whisky and Italian bitters. Sinclair was more my style since it's so fragrant!! Valheim has a slightly sour taste! There are definitely more cocktails with story and character here than the usual menu, which makes it a fun spot for anyone looking for a Hongdae cocktail bar.

Honey cream cheese crackers, the snack to order at Bitters

Honey cream cheese crackers Just cocktails alone felt a bit lacking, so I ordered the honey cream cheese crackers too! Sweet cream cheese and crunchy crackers made a sweet-and-salty combo that's exactly right as a drinking snack. It wasn't too heavy, so it was perfect for picking at between cocktails, and I kept reaching for more haha.

Bitters for solo drinks in Hongdae or a date night

Overall, what I felt was that Bitters isn't just a place to drink — it's a place to enjoy the whole space. From the moment you step through the secret door to the variety of signature cocktails, it definitely has its own character, giving it a different charm from an average Hongdae restaurant or bar! With bar seats available, it's great for drinking solo in Hongdae, and it also worked well as a good-vibe second stop.
