Seogwipo seafood restaurant for cutlassfish stew: Cheonghaewon
In short
Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a seafood restaurant in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, where I had braised cutlassfish during a Jeju trip. The tender fish and savory sauce, which was not overly spicy for me, stood out, and the spacious dining room seemed well suited to families and groups.

What was the braised cutlassfish like in Seongsan, Jeju?
On this Jeju trip, I had galchi jorim (braised cutlassfish) at Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch (제주로운청해원 성산일출봉점). It is usually one of my favorite dishes, so I arrived with expectations, and the tender cutlassfish and savory sauce made the meal memorable.

It was easy to include as a meal stop on an itinerary visiting Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seopjikoji, and Udo.

Is it comfortable for families or groups?
When I arrived, the spacious, pleasant dining room was the first thing I noticed. There were families and travelers dining there, and there was ample space for group meals as well.

The tables and dining area were roomy, so I ate comfortably. I thought it could be worth considering as a meal stop on a Jeju trip with parents, too.

How did the cutlassfish and sauce taste?
The cutlassfish was thick and meaty, with a clean, mild taste and no fishiness when I ate it. It felt fresh to me.

The sauce was red, but it was not very spicy or overpowering for my taste. It had a savory depth that went well with the fish.

The cutlassfish came away softly with just a light touch of my chopsticks. It broke apart tenderly in my mouth, with a subtle sweetness and mild flavor. The radish and potatoes were deeply infused with the sauce and went well with rice.

I also enjoyed mixing rice into the sauce after eating the fish. It was not overly spicy but still savory, so I enjoyed it to the end.

What were the side dishes like?
Several banchan (Korean side dishes) were served neatly. They paired well with the braised cutlassfish, making them easy to enjoy together.

What should you keep in mind when visiting or eating?
There may be a wait at lunchtime, so I would suggest arriving before the lunch rush if it fits your itinerary. However, I did not record how long the actual wait was during this visit.
The braised cutlassfish was best eaten while hot. As the sauce continued to simmer and soak further into the fish, the taste of eating it warm stayed with me.

You may also want to try the sauce with rice. I was satisfied not only with the cutlassfish but also with the rice mixed into the sauce.
How was it as a meal during an east Jeju trip?
Its location worked well for planning around trips to Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seopjikoji, and Udo. It was conveniently accessible from the attractions, making it easy to fit into this trip's route.

The things I liked most were the mild flavor of the meaty cutlassfish and the sauce, which was not overpowering.

The restaurant was clean and the service was kind, so I had a comfortable meal during the trip.

On my next Jeju trip, I would like to return for the braised cutlassfish and try other local Jeju dishes as well.
