Yard: a Gyeongju café for brunch and a walk in the flower field

Yard was a great stop for a Gyeongju date or family outing — brunch and coffee at a relaxed pace, plus a yellow cosmos flower field right in front of the café to stroll through afterward.

I wanted to stop by a café while traveling in Gyeongju, and I'd heard Yard had a pretty flower field, so I went. It's near Bomun-danji, so it's easy to fit into a Gyeongju trip, and since they have a brunch menu it works for a light meal too, not just coffee. If you're visiting Gyeongju World or Bomun Lake, you don't need to go out of your way to find a café — this one fits right into the route. Best of all, when I visited, yellow cosmos were blooming out front, so I got to eat French toast and see the flowers in one trip.

On a clear day you can fit the café building, the flower field, and the sky all into one shot — a nice spot for photos while traveling around Gyeongju.

The yellow cosmos field in front of Yard

Yard sits in Cheongun-dong, close to Gyeongju World, making it a solid pick when you're looking for a café near Bomun-danji. The building itself has a clean, simple look, and a wide flower field spreads out in front of it. The biggest draw here was being able to have coffee and brunch inside, then step outside to walk through the flowers.

The flowers were actually one of the reasons I came to Yard. The signage says the flower field out front covers about 1,000 pyeong (~3,300㎡), and when I visited in September, yellow cosmos were in full bloom — orange cosmos flowers everywhere.

Blue sky, the flower field, and the café building all in one frame made for great photos. Rather than just eating brunch and leaving, I'd recommend walking a full loop around the flower field and taking some pictures too.

Inside Yard: window seats for a slow break

The overall vibe was clean and comfortable. Even from inside, you can see the outdoor scenery through the windows, so it was a nice place to sip coffee and take it slow. On a clear day especially, the sky and flower field outside look pretty through the window, so a window seat probably makes the atmosphere even better.

How the French toast tasted: crisp outside, moist inside

The French toast came out beautifully plated. Powdered sugar dusted over the bread, topped with blueberries, green grapes, and nuts. It was sweet, so it paired well with the iced americano, and worked nicely as a light brunch.

It came with a sweet banana brûlée on the side, and the French toast itself was crisp outside, moist inside. That crisp exterior texture especially was new and delicious. We'd already eaten, so we kept it light, but Yard is actually known for its brunch menu — English plate, jamón campagne, and more.

Is Yard worth it? A Gyeongju date course for blooming season

Eating brunch at the café and then wandering through the flower field like a little stroll made this feel like a solid Gyeongju date course. It was even better because the yellow cosmos were in bloom, so we got flower viewing on top of everything else. Even with a kid along, the flower field made for good photos.

Gyeongju has no shortage of cafés, but what I liked about Yard this time was getting brunch and flower viewing in one visit. French toast, an iced americano, and a walk through the flower field right out front — a relaxed way to spend the time. If you're looking for a café near Bomun-danji in Gyeongju, or a place to casually stop by, I'd recommend visiting Yard during blooming season.
