From the varied skewer lineup to the touching basic side dishes~ I came away completely satisfied, so here's my honest review, boiled down and brought to you~~~

Why I chose Simya Kkochi, a skewer restaurant in Samsan-dong, Ulsan

Exterior of Simya Kkochi in the alley behind Lotte Department Store

Simya Kkochi, a Samsan-dong restaurant in Ulsan, is delicious, but the atmosphere and location are also great. It's in the alley right behind Samsan Lotte Department Store, so it's easy to find and perfect for setting as a meeting spot. It's ideal when you want to unwind after work with good meat and a drink.

There's also plenty of group seating, so it would work well for a work dinner or gatherings of all kinds. And even though it's called Simya Kkochi ("midnight skewers"), it's actually brighter inside than the typical lamb skewer place~!

Ordering at Simya Kkochi: tablet at every table

Ordering is conveniently done via tablet~! These days there's hardly a place left without tablet ordering. Even a lamb skewer place uses this system, so there's no worry about missed orders and you can easily check how much you've ordered.

What's on the Simya Kkochi menu, and why skewers start at 20

Simya Kkochi isn't just about lamb skewers — there are skewers of beef, pork, chicken and more, along with a variety of Chinese dishes that everyone loves, refreshing cold dishes, and hearty meal options, all well stocked. For skewers, the first order has to be at least 20 skewers, but you can mix and match, which makes it fun to pick a bunch of different flavors,

and popular Chinese dishes like guobaorou (sweet and sour pork) and mapo eggplant (yuxiangqiezi) and mala xiangguo are also available in variety, so you can indulge according to your taste. It's always the same dilemma every time I come to a Chinese restaurant, but I really wanted to eat everything~~~ haha

On top of that, there are meal options like warm corn noodles, refreshing cold noodles, and crispy fried flower bread, which would be perfect for a gathering or work dinner.

Complimentary side dish setup at Simya Kkochi

After finishing the order, Simya Kkochi's own special basic setup was laid out. At Simya Kkochi, a soft and warm Chinese-style egg soup comes out as a complimentary starter.

The complimentary Chinese-style egg soup

Personally, I really liked this part. It's a delicacy you don't easily see at a typical meat restaurant or bar — soft, just the right amount of salty, and the kind of flavor that warms you up pleasantly from the inside. It felt like it gently protected my stomach before diving into meat and drinks, and it was a total hit for my taste.

You can also add other side dishes from the self-serve bar.

Grilling lamb ribs, lamb belly and lamb skewers 5 at a time

Mixed skewer lineup of lamb ribs, lamb belly, and lamb skewers

As I mentioned, Simya Kkochi's biggest strength is that the skewer types are really varied — lamb skewers, lamb belly, lamb ribs and more. There's no need to order a large amount of just one cut; you can mix and match 5 pieces at a time of whatever cut you want, which is perfect for someone like me who wants to try a variety. Thanks to that, you can enjoy each cut differently without getting tired of it, which makes eating a lot more fun.

Automatic charcoal skewer rack turning the meat

I laid the lamb ribs, lamb belly, and lamb skewers evenly on the automatic skewer rack turning over the charcoal fire and grilled them until golden brown.

True to Samsan-dong's reputation for lamb ribs, the lamb rib skewer was nutty and full of flavor the moment I bit into it. There was no gamey smell at all, and the meat was tender.

A tender bite of lamb rib skewer

The lamb belly bursts with nuttiness, while the lamb skewer is clean and classic — each cut has a different texture and flavor, which made eating them a lot of fun~

Dipping a piece into the special cumin seasoning and taking a bite, then washing it down with a cold drink, felt like all my stress just flew away haha. The meat itself was excellent quality, and with the cumin and spicy sauce it never got greasy, so I could keep eating happily until the end. Every table also has good exhaust ventilation over the grill, so my clothes didn't end up smelling much, and I could enjoy the meal comfortably.

Simya Kkochi verdict: would I go back?

Simya Kkochi, a skewer restaurant in Samsan-dong, Ulsan, has great accessibility right behind Lotte Department Store, comes with a soft complimentary Chinese-style egg soup, and lets you pick 5 pieces of whatever cut you want — personally, it's a Samsan skewer place that really won me over.

It also only uses premium meat with no gamey smell and full of juiciness, so the taste is guaranteed too. Haha. If you're looking for a Samsan-dong dinner spot or want good anju (drinking food) with a drink, they're open late, so I'd recommend visiting Simya Kkochi. Next time I plan to come back with friends to try the Chinese dishes too.
