In short
Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch is a Korean beef gukbap restaurant at 476 Munsu-ro, Nam-gu, Ulsan, on the main road by the Gongeop Tower roundabout next to Central Hospital. On a late Sunday lunch the writer ordered Boksan haejangguk (Korean beef gukbap) at 11,000 won and haejang kalguksu at 13,000 won, each served as a single-person set with a bowl of black rice, and the regular portions were big enough to make a large order feel risky. We headed to this nearby Gongeop Tower favorite for a late Sunday lunch. On holidays, nothing beats a hearty meal close to home, haha!!

Where is Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch, and where do you park?
Right on the main road at the Gongeop Tower roundabout, next to Central Hospital, sits this delicious beef gukbap restaurant — Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch, a local favorite in Nam-gu, Ulsan. When there's space in front of the restaurant, you can enter from the Gongeop Tower roundabout heading toward Okdong, do a U-turn at Sinjeong High School, and come back down. If there's no space out front, you'll need to park somewhere suitable behind the building.

Since we always come for a late lunch, there's usually a parking spot waiting just for us, haha — we happily pulled in.

Beef gukbap and haejang kalguksu as single-person sets
On this visit, I noticed some news: a change in Boksan Haejang Nam-gu Sinjeong Branch's operating hours. A sign was posted saying they now close at 2:30 pm. So keep in mind you should arrive by 2 pm at the latest to enjoy the tasty beef gukbap.
With the chilly morning and evening weather, we craved something hot, so we ordered the Boksan haejangguk and haejang kalguksu. A big, thick earthenware pot arrives brimming with beef gukbap. I had the haejang kalguksu — a magical dish that turns kalguksu noodles from a side dish into a whole new experience of a main course!!

The one-person table came with an extra bowl for portioning out food, along with a bowl of rice cooked with black rice.

Everyone, Boksan Haejang's menu has a large portion option for the beef gukbap!! If we'd ordered that, our stomachs might have burst… the regular portion is already massive!! Even our regular-size order came generously filled to the brim — total food coma!!

The Boksan haejangguk (Korean beef gukbap) arrived beautifully plated. A rich, hearty bowl of soup that never disappoints. Haejang kalguksu, ₩13,000.
Beef gukbap with smoothly boiled kalguksu noodles added in — the generosity of this dish already has me saying thank you~~~

Hangover soup or not, as a noodle lover I'm always in~~~!! Haejang kalguksu!!! Boksan haejangguk (Korean beef gukbap), ₩11,000.

How does the Korean beef gukbap taste?
A truly cleanly simmered beef gukbap. Plenty of side ingredients, plus glass noodles slurped right up. Pull out a hearty piece of beef and you'll be totally amazed, haha — how can meat be this tender, savory, and delicious, haha.

It's tasty with a sprinkle of sancho (Sichuan pepper) powder too. There's also fun in portioning some out into a small bowl and topping it with this and that.

The julienned squash lends a mild sweetness, and the torn oyster mushrooms add great texture. But above all, you'll fall head over heels for the deep, savory richness of the quality Korean beef.

Autumn is the season to switch to Boksan haejangguk
If you enjoyed the yukhoe bibimbap or Boksan yukhoe mulhoe over summer, now's the time to switch over to Boksan haejangguk (Korean beef gukbap). Be sure to arrive early enough to enjoy a delicious lunch.
