Spicy chicken kalguksu in Garak-dong after work

On days when I don't quite want to head straight home after work, I crave something warm and filling, so I visited Hanyang Dak Kalguksu Main Branch in Garak-dong🥰 Kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) is already one of my usual favorites, but I was in the mood for something a little spicy that day, so I ordered spicy Hanyang chicken kalguksu, mini suyuk (boiled pork), and even a Fanta😍

Hours and parking

Monday through Friday, it is open from 11:00 to 21:00, with last orders at 20:20. On Saturday and Sunday, it is open from 11:00 to 20:00, with last orders at 19:20. On public holidays, it may close early if ingredients run out, so keep that in mind before visiting:) You cannot park in front of the restaurant, but National Police Hospital offers 30 minutes of free parking.

I stopped by right after work, and the location was easy to find. It is on the first floor, so it was easy to spot as I passed by, and its exterior had the comfortable, low-key feel of a noodle specialist where you can enjoy a meal without any fuss:) I thought it would be a nice place to stop when I was craving a warm bowl of soup after work🥰

Once inside, the overall atmosphere was nice and tidy:) It did not feel intimidating for dining alone, and it also looked like a good place to come for a meal after work. I visited as soon as I got off work that day too, sat down, and started by ordering.

Each table was neatly set with paper cups and basic seasonings such as salt and pepper, so I could use them right away whenever I needed them during the meal:)

Ordering was easy using the tablet set up at each table:) It was convenient because I could take my time looking over the menu, choose what I wanted, and order right away, haha.

There was a self-serve corner too. They had spicy kimchi, less-spicy kimchi, and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), so I could take what I liked🥰 I especially liked that the spicy and less-spicy kimchi were kept separately, letting me choose based on how much heat I wanted😆

Spicy Hanyang chicken kalguksu & mini suyuk & Fanta

First up was the main dish, spicy Hanyang chicken kalguksu! Personally, chicken kalguksu is one of my absolute favorite kinds of kalguksu. It was tasty on its own, but stirring a little of the spicy seasoning that came with it into the broth added a kick and made it even better👍🏻

The broth was so good that I really wanted to add rice and eat it that way too🥹 But since I had ordered mini suyuk as well, I held back because I needed to eat the pork too, haha. Next time, I want to add rice and properly enjoy every last bit of the broth!🫶🏻 And then there was the mini suyuk I ordered alongside it!

I ordered it because it is a great side dish when noodles alone feel a little lacking, and alternating between the chicken kalguksu and suyuk made for a lovely combination👏🏻

The mini suyuk was mild and clean-tasting on its own, but dipping it lightly in saeujeot (salted shrimp) added a savory, salty depth that made it much better❤️ Alongside the chicken kalguksu, it was just right for a satisfying full meal.

It was even tastier with mumallaengi (dried shredded radish), which added a crisp texture and more flavor from the seasoning:) Having the suyuk dipped in saeujeot with the dried radish kept everything clean and not at all greasy. I finished with a Fanta and had a proper meal after work🥰 Pineapple Fanta is the best, haha.

A hot and spicy dinner

The mornings and evenings have been getting chilly lately, so I had really been craving hot soup. It was so nice to stop by right after work and have such a filling meal with something warm! The spicy Hanyang chicken kalguksu I chose that day was especially perfect. I think this is a great place to visit when you want warm broth with a little spice, or when you want to have kalguksu and suyuk together🫶🏻 If you are looking for a tasty dinner after work like I was and searching for kalguksu in Garak-dong, Hanyang Dak Kalguksu Main Branch may be worth a visit👏🏻 I hope this helps anyone looking for a warm, hearty meal in Garak-dong:)
