I was having a meal with a friend to thank them for something kind they'd done, and since they love lamb, we decided that was the plan! We were going for lamb skewers, but I wanted somewhere clean and with good atmosphere, and that's how I found Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok (화로담양꼬치 마곡).

It's on the 2nd floor of the building, and I got a sense of tidiness even before stepping inside. The lighting fixtures on the menu board felt carefully chosen too.
Private seats divided by partitions and frosted glass

What I especially liked about Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok was the clean, no-frills interior that still allowed for a private meal. The muted tones gave it a calm, sophisticated feel, perfect for quiet gatherings or dates.

Even the other tables have frosted glass layered on top of the partitions, so wherever you sit, you can enjoy your lamb skewers comfortably. It's a great space for focusing on your meal in peace.

There are also 2 private rooms, and one of them had a group dinner going on when we visited. If you open the wall between the two rooms, it becomes one large room suitable for group dinners, apparently fitting up to 22 people.
What we ordered at Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok and what it cost

There's a tablet kiosk at the table, but also a paper menu, so it's easy to see everything at a glance. We picked from the signature lamb dishes: shoulder rack lamb chops at ₩28,000, sirloin lamb skewers at ₩23,000, guo bao rou, Hwarodam corn noodle soup, and crispy eggplant.
Pre-seared lamb shoulder rack and the staff grilling service

The shoulder rack and sirloin skewers at Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok come pre-seared, which locks in the juices and cuts down on splattering oil — I've officially discovered the appeal of pre-seared lamb.

We started with the shoulder rack. For the grilled dishes, staff come to your table and grill it for you. It's relaxed and the doneness is always right, and since it's staff-grilled, you get to focus fully on the meal — I'd recommend this place for gatherings or dates for that reason.

The shoulder rack is a great entry point for people who aren't used to lamb's aroma — the texture reminded me of beef, and the flavor was clean, mild, nutty, and smooth with no gamey smell at all. It paired really well with Hwarodam's signature chive flower sauce.

Hwarodam corn noodle soup, guo bao rou and fried eggplant
When I think of lamb skewers, I think of noodle soup haha. Hwarodam's noodle soup has a mala kick to it, so the broth was easy to sip on too. The corn noodle texture is really good.

The guo bao rou had chewy, crispy fried coating with a tangy sauce, and even though it's meat, it felt refreshing between bites haha. The batter wasn't too thick either — just the right thickness.

The crispy eggplant made me wonder if Hwarodam Magok is secretly an eggplant restaurant. I know it's known for lamb, but after eating the eggplant I genuinely thought, wait, is this actually the eggplant place? The crispy, salty seasoning combo, and it stayed crispy all the way to the last bite even though it's eggplant...

Lamb sirloin skewers: the dish my friend kept praising
The lamb sirloin skewers were the dish that got endless praise from my friend, who loves lamb skewers. They were thick and hearty, holding in the juices well, and had more of that distinct lamb aroma, so lamb lovers will probably keep reaching for the sirloin.

Even when cooked a bit longer than usual, the juices were still bursting, rich, heavy, and springy — the kind of flavor that confirms this is a solid lamb restaurant in Magok!

Is Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok worth a visit?
Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok scores points right from its location near Balsan Station, and it has a calm, private atmosphere suited to gatherings, dates, or a special meal. With relatively tender shoulder rack and springy sirloin skewers, it's a solid lamb restaurant in Magok worth visiting. Make sure to order the crispy eggplant! They also run a lunch set menu, so it's worth stopping by for lunch too~
