I had a dinner plan near Balsan Station after work, and while looking through menus that day I found myself craving something a bit different from my usual go-tos.

It had been a while since I'd eaten lamb, so I decided to go for lamb ribs and lamb skewers for a change.

Searching for lamb restaurants near Balsan Station, I was looking for somewhere with good meat quality plus a spacious, clean interior — and Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok caught my eye.

Some lamb restaurants can feel a bit chaotic or have tables squeezed too close together, but I liked that the interior here was clean and the seating had room to breathe, so I chose it for our dinner. And it turned out the lamb was so good!! I thought it'd be a nice place to bring my parents next time.
Where is Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok and how do you get there?
Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok is about a 5–6 minute walk from Exit 9 of Balsan Station, on the 2nd floor of the Queens Park 10 building. Going up the central corridor to the 2nd floor and heading inward, the restaurant sits at the very back — easy enough to find even on a first visit.
The exterior looked clean, which made a good first impression, and the moment I opened the door I saw lamb being pre-grilled over charcoal right at the entrance.
Watching a staff member carefully grill each piece of meat, I thought from the start, 'this place must really know how to grill meat properly.'
Partition seats and group rooms: is Hwarodam good for a Magok team dinner?
As soon as you walk in, the space is divided into two sides, with soft lighting overall and neatly arranged tables. Instead of the slightly cluttered feel you sometimes get at lamb skewer places, it felt more polished, which gave a good first impression.
I especially liked that each table has a partition installed, so there's some separation from the neighboring table. Even during busy hours, you're not constantly making eye contact with the next table, so it's easy to chat comfortably with whoever you came with.
Further inside there are also group rooms, which seems well suited for office workers looking for a Magok work-dinner room.
It's a good setup for a group meal with several people after work, and also relaxed enough for a family dinner or a date.
The space itself is quite spacious, so the tables didn't feel packed tightly together, and each seat has a hood installed to draw up smoke. With charcoal grilling, I usually worry about my clothes picking up a strong meat smell, but this time the smell lingered much less than expected, so there was little to worry about after the meal.
On one side there was also a separate meat fridge, where I could see the meat stored neatly. Overall it gave the impression of a place that pays attention to everything from the space to how the meat is managed — so if you care about atmosphere when looking for a lamb skewer place near Balsan Station, this seems like a good option.
The menu and prices at Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok
The menu is made up of grilled lamb cuts like French rack, shoulder rack, and lamb flower rib meat, plus a variety of lamb skewers such as sirloin skewers, thick lamb skewers, and rib-meat skewers.

If you want to try several things at once, there's also a whole-lamb grill set and a whole-lamb skewer set, so there were quite a few options to choose from.
There were plenty of side dishes that go well with the meat too, like guo bao rou (sweet and sour pork), tomato egg stir-fry, ji-sam-seon (crispy pork and vegetables), and mapo tofu.
Drinks including gaoliang liquor are available, and there's a free corkage coupon for one bottle, which seemed handy when visiting with a group.

We ordered the shoulder rack SIZE UP 270g, sirloin skewer 250g, and thick lamb skewer 250g, plus Hwarodam fried rice and Hwarodam noodle soup. With two bottles of Saero and a Tsingtao on the side, the table ended up looking pretty lavish.
Side dishes and the three special lamb sauces
The basic sides are baek-kimchi (white kimchi) and mu-saengchae (seasoned radish), and three special sauces are also given per person.

The chive-flower sauce was fragrant, the secret soy sauce was salty with a slight kick of spice, and the vitagal sauce had a nutty sesame flavor. Switching sauces between bites let the same lamb taste a little different each time.

Shoulder rack SIZE UP 270g: lamb chops grilled table-side by staff
The shoulder rack came pre-grilled and was finished off by a staff member, with the thick meat turning golden brown as a subtle charcoal aroma rose up.
I thought the bone-in cut might have less meat, but there was more attached than expected, and the first bite was slightly firm on the outside and juicy inside — nice and tender to chew.

The characteristic lamb smell wasn't strong, so it was easy to eat without hesitation, and dipping it in the sauce added a savory saltiness that also worked well as a drinking snack.
Lamb sirloin skewers vs thick lamb skewers: clean or rich?
The lamb sirloin skewers came with big chunks of meat on them, so they looked quite generous.
Grilling them on the rotating skewer machine was convenient, and since they weren't too fatty, they were easy to eat with a clean taste.
The chunky pieces gave a good chew, and a subtle charcoal aroma added to the clean flavor.
For me, the secret soy sauce was the best match for the sirloin skewers!
The thick lamb skewers had a bit more fat than the sirloin, giving them a richer flavor overall.

Golden brown outside and juicy and chewy inside, they really delivered the distinctive taste of lamb skewers.

Alternating between the two made the difference between the clean and the rich flavor really clear, which I liked.
This place really does lamb skewers right,, no gamey smell at all, a genuinely great find
Finishing with Hwarodam fried rice and spicy noodle soup
The Hwarodam fried rice is a Chinese-style fried rice with shrimp and egg, and the grains came out fluffy and well separated.
Adding a splash of Thai chili soy sauce made it salty and a bit spicy, and it paired well with the lamb.
The last thing we ate, Hwarodam noodle soup, stood out for its pungent, spicy broth.

The spice was more distinct than I expected, with a slight numbing tingle on the tongue that kept making me sip and hiss a little — but it cut through the richness of the lamb, and the pairing turned out surprisingly good.

With lamb and a beer-and-soju mix on top of it all, it ended up being a pretty hearty dinner after work.
