Gangseo Korean restaurant for rose webfoot octopus: Jju Baksa
In short
Jju Baksa Magok Branch (쭈박사 마곡점) is a Korean restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul, near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station and Seoul Botanic Park. At lunch, I ordered mild rose jjusam, cooled it down with corn cheese and steamed egg, then added ₩3,500 flying-fish-roe fried rice. Jju Baksa Magok Branch is a great pick for diners worried about spice.

Jju Baksa Magok Branch near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station
Today I visited Jju Baksa Magok Branch (쭈박사 마곡점), one of my favorite restaurants near my office and a great jjukumi (webfoot octopus) spot near Seoul Botanic Park. It is close to Exit 8 of Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station on Line 9, so it is easy to find.

Jju Baksa Magok Branch is near both Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station and Seoul Botanic Park, so it is easy to get to—and it even has outdoor tables! It is a lovely spot for a meal while taking in the green forest view, or for a drink in the evening haha. I booked for the lunch rush, but the outdoor tables were already full lol. I was shown to an indoor table.

Ordering mild rose jjusam
Ordering is easy with the table-order system! They are also running Naver receipt and Instagram hashtag events. There is a ₩10,000-per-person lunch-special set when you visit at lunch, but since it had been a while, I wanted to try something new..!

You can choose from various sets like these, but the rose webfoot octopus jumped right out at me!! As a total rose-sauce killer, I made my choice immediately lol.
- Rose webfoot octopus → changed to jjusam (webfoot octopus and pork belly), for 2
- 2 drinks
- Mild spice level
True to my low-spice-tolerance self, I chose mild! Even the regular level is seriously spicy, like Yeopgi Tteokbokki...

After ordering, I checked out the Chupa Chups for dessert and the celebrity signatures from visitors to Jju Baksa.

We each put on an apron to keep splatters at bay lol.

One drink per person, all set!

The basic sides that tame the heat
What I really, really love about Jju Baksa is how solid the whole spread is..! Corn cheese comes as a basic side, and you can choose steamed egg—can you see that volcano steamed egg??? It is the precious friend that calms a mouth suffering from spicy food lol.

This sauce is essential too haha.

Rose jjusam ready to eat right away
And then Jju Baksa's rose jjusam arrived! It comes generously loaded with tteok (rice-cake slices), and I asked them to cook the bean sprouts together with it haha. Another advantage is that it arrives already cooked, so you can eat it straight away~

It looks like nothing but delicious rose sauce, but it is actually much spicier than you would think, so I used all kinds of methods to neutralize the heat lol. I want to become the kind of adult who can confidently eat the regular spice level at a place like this, but changing my constitution is not easy, is it..? Still, as I ate the rose jjusam and spooned up the broth a few times, the broth was so good that I could not bear to leave it lol. So... I ordered fried rice too ^____^

Flying-fish-roe fried rice in rose sauce
I chose the flying-fish-roe fried rice (₩3,500), and a staff member brought over a huge bowl of rice and expertly stir-fried it. Today I was once again reminded that rose-sauce fried rice tastes absolutely heavenly... Whoever invented rose sauce, who are you?

I thought I was going to burst, but? Ta-da—we finished it all. A working person's determination when it comes to lunch is scary, right? Jju Baksa Magok Branch is a great webfoot octopus restaurant near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station and Seoul Botanic Park, so it is easy to reach; with the weather getting cooler lately, you can even enjoy the outdoor seating! I highly recommend it for lunch or dinner in Magok haha.
