Sukiyaki set with garlic peanut sauce and rice porridge finish: Chome
In short
Chome is a Japanese restaurant in a back alley of Noryangjin, Seoul, known for ramen and mazemen, that just launched a new sukiyaki set. The sukiyaki set costs ₩29,000, comes with enough meat for about two people, and pairs well with a garlic peanut sauce and raw egg for dipping — plus a bonus porridge finish made with rice instead of the usual kalguksu noodles. A great warm, shareable meal for two on a chilly day.

Today I went back to Chome, a Noryangjin restaurant I visit often for ramen, mazemen, and futomaki!

Usually I come when I'm craving ramen or mazemen, but this time they had a new menu item, so I went straight over !_! Chome's new sukiyaki ♥

My last visit was so satisfying that I was naturally looking forward to this new dish too haha

Chome, a Japanese restaurant in a Noryangjin alley — what's the vibe?
Chome sits in an alley in Noryangjin! I loved the strong Japanese atmosphere from my very first visit, and now it's the place that comes to mind whenever I'm wondering what to eat and craving ramen or mazemen lol

This time I wasn't here for my usual order — I came for the newly launched sukiyaki set!

Sukiyaki set price and what's included
The sukiyaki set is ₩29,000, and the portion is roughly enough for two people. There's also a ₩35,500 set that comes with futomaki, but unfortunately the set futomaki was sold out when I visited ㅠㅠ
So I ordered the sukiyaki set at ₩29,000 plus futomaki (2 pieces) separately! I love Chome's futomaki so much that eating sukiyaki alone felt like it wasn't quite enough lol
And here it is, the sukiyaki !_!

The perfect dish for a day when you're craving something warm and brothy ♥ What I liked most was the amount of meat! There was so much more than I expected — plenty for two people to share.
Cooking the meat and vegetables together in the sweet, savory broth kept my chopsticks moving nonstop haha. The broth itself is delicious, so naturally you end up scooping spoonful after spoonful.

Dipping the sukiyaki in garlic peanut sauce
One thing that really stuck with me this time was the garlic peanut sauce! It was my first time dipping sukiyaki in garlic peanut sauce, and it was genuinely so good?!

The nutty flavor of the peanuts combined with garlic went way better with the sukiyaki meat than I expected. The sauce itself was so good that the moment a piece of meat was cooked, it went straight into the sauce lol. If you like nutty, savory sauces, you have to try this combo!

Can't forget the raw egg combo either
When it comes to sukiyaki, you can't skip the raw egg! I enjoyed the well-cooked meat with the sauce first, then dipped it into a silky raw egg for the next bite ♥

When the warm, salty meat gets coated in smooth raw egg, the flavor turns even richer. Meat + sukiyaki broth + raw egg is a totally winning combo !_! The garlic peanut sauce and the raw egg give completely different flavors, so it was fun switching between the two haha

Also ordered futomaki (2 pieces) separately
I was bummed the set futomaki was sold out, but I couldn't give it up, so I ordered futomaki (2 pieces) on the side! It's one of my favorite things every time I come to Chome, and eating it between bites of sukiyaki was just as good as always.

Each piece is big and packed full, so even just 2 pieces have real presence lol. If it's your first time at Chome, I recommend trying the futomaki alongside the ramen or sukiyaki!

Finishing porridge made with rice instead of kalguksu
And that wasn't even the end! Once you finish the sukiyaki, they give you kalguksu noodles for free. But oddly enough, that day I was craving rice more than noodles, so I asked the owner if I could get rice instead of the noodles.
Thankfully they brought me a bowl of rice, so I dove straight into making porridge with the leftover sukiyaki broth! And the owner even gave me some gim (seaweed) flakes on top ♥
I added the rice to the leftover broth, simmered it down until it was thick, then sprinkled on the gim flakes... and this turned out to be a real delicacy lol. I also tossed in the leftover raw egg I'd used for dipping the sukiyaki meat into the porridge! Mixing and cooking the egg in made the porridge even richer and softer.

I was so glad I asked for rice instead of kalguksu that day — I enjoyed every last spoonful of that porridge ㅎ-ㅎ If you're craving a warm, brothy meal in Noryangjin or looking for the best sukiyaki spot in the area, give Chome's new menu a try :-)
