On a day when I wanted fresh sashimi after work and a relaxed drink at home, the place that came to mind was Ttangkkeut Maeul (땅끝마을), a sashimi spot at Noryangjin Fish Market. Headed straight there!!

Why I picked jack mackerel sashimi and sekkoshi at Noryangjin Fish Market
Fresh sashimi is best sliced right on the spot, so off to Noryangjin Fish Market! The market has such a wide variety of fish that there's always something new to look at each visit, and even the same type of sashimi can taste or feel different depending on the species — you get to pick exactly what you want, and enjoy a generous portion at a fairly reasonable price. This time I was craving the crunchy texture of sekkoshi and the nutty flavor of jack mackerel sashimi, both of which I love, so I headed to this Noryangjin sashimi spot.

Choosing the fish in person at Ttangkkeut Maeul
I came here to pick up fresh sashimi, and Ttangkkeut Maeul is my go-to Noryangjin sashimi spot. One of its best points is being able to look at the different fish species in person and pick exactly what you want!! I ended up going with jack mackerel sashimi and sekkoshi, and given the portion size and freshness, it was a really satisfying choice.
If you're curious about the price of jack mackerel at Noryangjin, it's worth comparing not just the fish itself but the full package — portion, and the extras that come with it!! Ttangkkeut Maeul packed in a generous stew kit and all sorts of sauces along with the sashimi, so it genuinely felt like a proper spread at home.

The generosity I saw while waiting for my order
What stood out most while waiting for takeout was how generously everything was packed!! Like the motto 'skimp on ingredients and you'll fail,' the owner sliced the sashimi without holding back and packed it in generously — such a warm way of doing business at Ttangkkeut Maeul. Portion matters, but freshness of ingredients matters just as much, and seeing how generously everything was packed from the start told me I'd found a real Noryangjin sashimi gem!!

Unpacking the takeout at home
Got home and opened up the packaging — even more impressed!! The jack mackerel sashimi and sekkoshi were stacked generously, looking fresh just from the visuals!! Today's stars: Noryangjin jack mackerel and flounder sekkoshi~ If you love Noryangjin jack mackerel sashimi, this is a setup you'll be happy with!! Plenty of sauces too — stew ingredients, stew seasoning, sashimi soy sauce, ssamjang, and sushi vinegar dressing — enough for a proper home spread~~

The texture of flounder sekkoshi
Starting with the flounder sekkoshi I love so much!! Sekkoshi's signature crunchy texture is the whole appeal — the more you chew, the more that nutty, chewy bite comes through, and it's the kind of drinking snack you keep reaching for♥ The flounder sekkoshi really delivered on that chewy bite — fully satisfied!!

How to eat jack mackerel sashimi
Next up, jack mackerel sashimi! Eaten plain without any sauce, the nutty flavor comes through more than you'd expect — it's delicious even with nothing on it! Dip it lightly in the sashimi soy sauce and the umami deepens, or pair it with ssamjang or chojang (vinegared chili sauce) for a whole different flavor — there are so many ways to enjoy jack mackerel sashimi. The pairing of today's jack mackerel sashimi and flounder sekkoshi was seriously a texture genius combo!!!

When is eating sashimi at home the best idea?
Picking up fresh sashimi from this Noryangjin Fish Market spot on the way home from work and eating it there meant no rush, just a cozy solo meal, and with a glass of soju poured, it felt like my own personal sashimi restaurant~~ It's a generous enough spread for outdoor hangouts, picnics, camping, or housewarming gatherings too, without falling short!!
Fresh jack mackerel sashimi, crunchy flounder sekkoshi, and a glass of soju — the perfect reward for the day! Thanks to the freshness, generous portions, and the owner's warm hospitality, if I visit another Noryangjin Fish Market sashimi restaurant, Ttangkkeut Maeul is the one I'd want to come back to!!
