Bucheon Korean BBQ restaurant for family meals: Dwaeji Gongbang

In short

Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, where families can dine with children. We ordered 2 servings of pork neck and 1 serving of pork belly, then added another serving of pork neck after the kids loved it. Verdict: a satisfying family meal, especially for the tender pork neck.

We went to Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch (돼지공방 부천옥길동본점) in Okgil-dong, Bucheon, for meat with the kids.

We ordered 2 servings of pork neck and 1 serving of pork belly, and although I’m usually firmly on team pork belly, I totally fell for the pork neck here.

The kids ate the meat so well that we even ordered 1 more serving of pork neck, then happily finished the side dishes and soft tofu stew, too.

The free kids’ rice and seaweed made it great for eating out with children, and I also can’t leave out the pickled peppers and pickled garlic scapes that I seriously loved!!

A Bucheon Okgil-dong Korean BBQ restaurant that was great with kids

When I eat out with the kids, I always check for baby chairs first. This place had baby chairs, plus free kids’ rice and seaweed, which was great.

I wondered whether I needed to bring food separately for the little one, but they provided rice and seaweed, and my child nearly finished a whole bowl of rice.

And the kids ate an amazing amount of meat, too. They kept eating it so well that I think they may have eaten more than we did that day.

Two servings of pork neck and one serving of pork belly

To start, we ordered 2 servings of pork neck plus 1 serving of pork belly.

As soon as the meat arrived, it looked so good right off the bat.

Marbled pork neck

The pork neck in particular had such pretty marbling that I briefly thought it was beef. It was thick and had a great color, so I was excited even before cooking it. We put it on the grill and cooked it up nicely.

And when I tried it… the pork neck was seriously delicious.

I’m usually a pork-belly person, but that day the pork neck was better than the pork belly. For pork neck, it was incredibly tender rather than dry, with plenty of juices—almost like it melted away.

The kids loved the pork neck so much that we ended up ordering another serving.

Four ways to enjoy Dwaeji Gongbang’s meat

There was a list of four ways to enjoy the meat on the table, so I took a photo of that, too.

Guide to four ways to enjoy the meat

The meat was delicious on its own, of course, but trying these different combinations gave each bite a different feel.

Dip it in fermented hairtail sauce

This is the method where you simmer the fermented hairtail sauce on the grill and dip the meat in it. The meat itself was clean-tasting and savory, and the salty sauce went really well with it.

If you like meljeot (salted fermented anchovy sauce), I think you’ll like this combination.

Grill white kimchi with the meat

This method is simply grilling baekkimchi (mild white kimchi) on the grill and eating it with the meat.

It isn’t difficult at all—just place the white kimchi beside the meat as it cooks. Well-grilled white kimchi with the meat is delicious, too.

Eat it with pickled shredded peppers

The pickled shredded peppers were fine on their own, but with the meat, they cut through the richness nicely.

Pickled shredded peppers served with meat

Put some pickled shredded peppers on a piece of meat, and their tangy, spicy flavor makes you keep reaching for more.

Eat it with pickled shredded garlic scapes

And this was my favorite combination: pickled shredded garlic scapes plus meat. The crisp texture of the garlic scapes goes so well with it.

Pickled peppers and pickled garlic scapes

Seriously, the side dishes were delicious that day, too. The kimchi was so good that I kept picking at it while eating the meat, but what I remember most were the pickled peppers and pickled garlic scapes. At first I assumed they would just be the usual pickles served at a Korean BBQ place, but they were much tastier than I expected.

Put one pickle on a piece of meat and it is salty and crunchy, while also cutting the richness of the meat, so you just keep eating them. They were so tasty that I looked and found they even sell them!! If you come here, I really want to tell you not to eat only the meat—make sure to try the pickles, too.

Tasty meljeot and complimentary soft tofu stew

The meljeot was delicious with the meat, too. Dipping the meat in it added a salty flavor that worked well, and alternating it with the pickles meant I never got tired of it. They also brought out soft tofu stew, which was nice, too.

Because it came complimentary, I honestly didn’t expect much, but it was better than I thought. A spoonful of the spicy soft tofu stew between bites of meat went really well. Even though it was a complimentary item, it tasted good enough that I kept spooning it up.

We eventually added one more serving of pork neck

At first, I thought 2 servings of pork neck would be enough, but the kids ate the meat so well that we eventually ordered more. The extra pork neck looked so good, too.

Once grilled, it was just as tender and delicious. More than anything, it was nice that the kids ate both their rice and meat so well that day. They finished a bowl of rice with seaweed and ate plenty of meat, making this one of the more satisfying meals we’ve had out with the kids.

If you’re looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant with a child in Bucheon Okgil-dong

After eating here, I felt that the meat was delicious, but what I especially liked was how easy it was to visit with children. There were baby chairs, free kids’ rice and seaweed, and even coloring books, so it was a good place to eat together with the kids.

And although I usually prefer pork belly, the pork neck was what I remembered most here. We started with 2 servings and eventually added another, which shows that the pork neck was definitely more to my taste.

And if you go for the meat, please make sure to try the pickled peppers and pickled garlic scapes with it. Meat with meljeot was good, grilled white kimchi was good, and the pickled shredded peppers or garlic scapes were delicious, too—there was fun in trying all the different ways. If you’re looking for somewhere comfortable to eat meat with children in Bucheon Okgil-dong, I really recommend Dwaeji Gongbang!
