Paju outdoor café for train-view iced lattes: On the Rail

In short

On the Rail is an outdoor café near Imjingak in Paju, Gyeonggi, where real trains pass by the tables. I had an iced latte and kaya jam bread among the green trees on a relaxing weekend drive. Verdict: a lovely stop for a train-timed coffee break.

Near Imjingak, this is such a unique outdoor café in Paju where real trains go right past. Sitting at an outdoor table with a coffee feels so nice... It’s a café I come back to now and then because it’s so healing.

When the train passes

On the Rail train passing timetable

There’s an actual timetable for the passing trains. They run twice on weekdays and four times on weekends. Come at the right time on a weekend and you can watch the train go by and make a fun, unusual memory! If you come after lunch for coffee, the train passes at just the perfect time~

On the Rail outdoor area with green trees and grass

Whenever I come to On the Rail (온더레일), I love sitting outside with my drink. There are so many lush green trees and patches of grass—total healing! Since it’s near Imjingak, quite a lot of people stop by while they’re out exploring. Paju has lots of huge cafés, but not many outdoor cafés like this.

The coffee is genuinely delicious, too. I especially want to recommend the latte. (I always have a latte when I come here.) To get right to the point: this place does a great iced latte. And yes, I had one again that day.

So much delicious-looking bread

It’s also known for tasty baked goods, and all the bread looked so tempting!

A variety of savory and dessert breads

There are lots of choices, from savory meal breads to sweet dessert breads. I tend to try one whenever I visit, and this time I decided on kaya jam bread!

Kaya jam bread and fruit cream bread

Honestly, I wanted the fruit cream bread too... But I resisted being greedy and chose just one.

Drinking coffee outdoors

Outdoor table area at On the Rail

The weather was just perfect that day, so lots of people were drinking outside. There are plenty of tables, and it almost feels like you’ve come to a resort. That’s why I recommend it as an outdoor café in Paju. It would be even better in spring or fall, when the weather is ideal for being outdoors!

An iced latte enjoyed outdoors

Of course, I ordered a latte! It’s quite a generous size, too. When you drink outside, it comes in a takeaway cup, and I always have some left to take with me, haha. I noticed lots of families around. Many people stop in after spending time near Imjingak on the weekend.

Outdoor view with lush green trees

(It’s a little sad that the view doesn’t all fit into one photo...) Still, the lush trees and wide-open view are exactly my style. Why do I find myself drawn more and more to green things as I get older?

Kaya jam toast

Toast filled with kaya jam and butter

This bread has kaya jam and butter inside. Can you see how thick that butter is? The butter isn’t heavy; it has a lovely nutty flavor.

Soft, fluffy crumb of kaya jam butter bread

The bread was wonderfully soft and fluffy, so it went perfectly together! Having kaya jam again after so long made me feel all nostalgic. (I used to eat it a lot in my early twenties...)

On the Rail café's spacious outdoor area

Paju has quite a few large cafés, right? But if you’re looking for one that stays open late and has a big outdoor area, I recommend trying On the Rail. I thought it would be so nice to come back next time with my family.

Dogs are welcome, and you can enjoy coffee together outdoors.

A decorated spot for commemorative photos

There are little decorated spots like this throughout the café, making them great for souvenir photos. Lots of kids were asking for their photos to be taken, haha. And how lovely would it be to see a train pass by here, too~

Spacious parking lot at On the Rail

There’s plenty of parking, too! Even I, a novice driver, could park comfortably because the lot is so spacious. It felt open and refreshing, right down to my heart. That’s what made it such a happy, healing weekend.
