Pork neck restaurant in Gwangmyeong: steamed egg set at Sammokjip

In short

Sammokjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch is a grilled pork restaurant near Gwangmyeong Sageori Station in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi, known for its pork neck and pork belly. On this second visit, after the Cheolsan branch, the order was two servings of samok teuk-mokssal (premium pork neck) with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), steamed egg and a bowl of rice, and the staff grilled the meat from the first sear. Portions at Sammokjip were generous enough for two to eat their fill, and the tableside grilling makes it easy even on a first visit.

I went to Sammokjip, a meat restaurant near Gwangmyeong Sageori Station. It's known as a pork neck and pork belly spot in Gwangmyeong, and I'd been before and liked it so much I came back again haha. The prices aren't too heavy either, so it felt like a place I could visit often, and the portions were generous enough for two to eat until full haha.

Sammokjip Cheolsan branch or Gwangmyeong Sageori Station branch?

Last time I visited the Sammokjip Cheolsan branch, and this time I went to the Gwangmyeong Sageori Station branch! Both are equally good, so I'd say just go wherever's closer.

When I arrived out front, the sign stood out clearly, so I had no trouble finding the place.

Maybe because it was dinner time, the restaurant already had quite a few customers, and the smell of grilling meat drifted out from the entrance, building my expectations before I even sat down.

Even on a weekday evening, tables were filling up one by one, and it really felt like a spot locals rate highly.

Inside Sammokjip: room size and the reservation table setup

The inside of Sammokjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch was more spacious than I expected, with generous gaps between tables, so I could eat comfortably without worrying about neighboring tables. The ventilation was also good, so the typical BBQ-restaurant smell didn't cling too heavily to my clothes, which I liked.

Since I'd made a reservation, they had the table set up like this in advance. Scallion salad, chive salad, kimchi and more came out together, perfect for pairing with the meat, and refills were available if needed, so I could eat without holding back.

Two servings of premium pork neck with doenjang jjigae and steamed egg

What I ordered that day was two servings of pork neck, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), steamed egg, and one rice. Here they call it samok teuk-mokssal, and they really do pork neck especially well.

When I ordered the pork neck, a staff member placed it on the grill and seared it from the very first sear, flipping it attentively from start to finish, so I could eat comfortably without having to manage the grill myself. Just the sound of it sizzling on the grill already had me drooling.

The steamed egg caught my eye right away, puffed up fluffy and filling the bowl. I also liked that it came in a stone pot, so it stayed warm until the very end. Taking a spoonful, the seasoning wasn't too strong and it was soft, making it perfect alongside the meat.

The doenjang jjigae came out richly boiled, perfect for polishing off a whole bowl of rice. The savory soybean paste base was loaded with tofu and vegetables, giving a comforting, filling feeling, and taking a spoonful now and then between bites of meat cleared my palate nicely.

How did the pork neck at Sammokjip taste?

The pork neck was a good thickness, crisp on the outside and moist and well-cooked inside. I picked up a piece, dipped it lightly in salt, and the juices spread through my mouth with a clean flavor and no gamey smell.

It wasn't overly fatty and had a light, clean taste, so I didn't get tired of it even after several pieces. Dipping it in ssamjang and wrapping it in lettuce brought out another kind of appeal, and adding garlic and shredded scallion made the flavor come alive even more.
