Gwangmyeong Sageori galbi restaurant for parents: Seoseo Galbi

In short

Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi is a galbi (grilled ribs) restaurant on Gwangi-ro in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi, near Gwangmyeong Sageori. Bringing my parents for the first time, we ordered 3 servings of seoseo galbi (standing ribs) at 22,000 won each with water naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon and rice, then ended up ordering more ribs. Wide gaps between tables and a self-serve bar with soy-marinated crab made Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi an easy pick for a family meal.

First photo from the visit to Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi

It's been a while since I took my mom and dad out for barbecue~ There are so many barbecue restaurants around Gwangmyeong intersection, but this time we went to Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi, a place that's been famous for a long time! I'd been a few times before, but this was my parents' first visit, and their reaction was better than expected, so I felt weirdly proud haha. Let me write honestly about what I felt eating there~😆

Where to park at Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi

Parking space in front of Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi

There's parking for about 2 cars right in front of the restaurant~ There's also a paid parking lot nearby, but from what I know it's on the pricier side, so if you plan to park for a long time, I'd recommend the Gwangmyeong Traditional Market public parking lot! It's a bit of a walk, but it's nice to look around the market on the way, and it's also close to Gwangmyeong-sageori Station, so it's convenient by public transit too~

Is Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi comfortable for a family gathering?

Once you step inside Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi, it's bigger than you'd expect~ There are plenty of tables, plus long rows of seating further inside, so it looked good for family gatherings or larger groups. Especially with parents or kids, places that are too cramped or have tight table spacing can be uncomfortable, but this place felt much less like that, you know👍

Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi menu and what we ordered

The menu is clean too — standing ribs, fresh beef ribs, pork ribs, water naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon, and the new menu item, fresh raw ribs. If you're looking for ribs at this Gwangmyeong intersection favorite, it's split into beef ribs and pork ribs so you can pick by preference~ The only real decision is beef or pork ribs 🤣

Since we brought my parents along, we went with the standing ribs! We ordered 3 servings of standing ribs, water naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon (cold noodles), and steamed rice haha. Spoiler: we ended up ordering more standing ribs😆😆

Side dishes set out after ordering

The side dishes came out after ordering~ Anything missing, you can just grab from the self-serve bar, which is nice

Soy-marinated crab at the self-serve bar

There's a self-serve bar in one corner of the restaurant~ And what caught my eye the most was that there's soy-marinated crab (yangnyeom gejang) right there at the self-serve bar! I was like, oh~! when I saw that haha. There are also disposable aprons to protect your clothes, so no worries there👍👍

A serving of standing ribs with charcoal

How do the standing ribs at 22,000 won a serving taste?

Right after they set up the charcoal, the standing ribs came out (₩22,000 per serving). Seoseo galbi is beef ribs, and just looking at the color of the meat you can tell the marinade has soaked in well, right? Grilled on the pan, the outside got nice and golden while the inside stayed juicy — I loved that~😆

Complimentary Swiss chard soybean paste soup

The complimentary geunde doenjang guk (soybean paste soup with Swiss chard) came with meat and plenty of chard in it, and it's great to eat with rice👍

Beef ribs cooked golden brown in a short time

Since it's beef ribs, the cooking time is short too, which is so nice haha. The meat isn't tough — it's on the tender side

Standing rib wrapped in lettuce

Take a bite and you can feel the juiciness, and the marinade has that sweet-and-salty flavor that's easy for everyone to like! It's already good on its own, but wrapping it in lettuce makes it even better, you know? This was my parents' first time trying it too, and they both said it was delicious, so I ate happily

Water naengmyeon ordered alongside the meat

Water naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon: how spicy are they?

And it doesn't end there~ You've got to eat naengmyeon (cold noodles) with your barbecue! The water naengmyeon was refreshingly cold, and having a bite of meat followed by a bite of noodles really confirmed that the combo is great♥

A bowl of spicy bibim naengmyeon

The bibim naengmyeon. If you're not great with spicy food, you might want to be a bit careful haha. I'm not great with spicy food either, but these days I've gotten to where I can handle up to about Shin Ramyun level?! The bibim naengmyeon is quite spicy

Bibim naengmyeon paired with ribs

It's not just spicy for the sake of it — it's a good, tasty kind of spicy, so it went really well with the meat haha. If you like spicy food, you might actually love it more

Taking my parents to Gwangmyeong Seoseo Galbi: the verdict

Going with my mom and dad this time felt different from the usual barbecue trips with friends or kids~ Seeing my parents enjoy the meal made me feel weirdly proud, like I'd found a good restaurant, haha. You know that feeling?!😆

The tender beef ribs paired so well with the sweet-and-salty marinade, and having naengmyeon alongside the meat made it feel like a proper meal! It was funny when they both said they were full but couldn't stop using their chopsticks haha. If you're looking for a place to take your parents like we did, this seems like a solid choice for a family meal near Gwangmyeong intersection. The tables are spacious and there's a self-serve bar, so it's comfortable even with a larger group. I think I'll order the ribs again next time I go~😆😆
