In short
Hwieol Migeum Branch is a Korean bar on Migeum-illo 74beon-gil, near Migeum Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a date for two, the writer ordered matcha makgeolli (fresh rice wine), Set 3 (spicy yukgaejang beef hot pot and corn cheese pancake) and mentaiko cream udon — the matcha makgeolli was thick like yogurt, with a deeper matcha aroma rising with every sip. Partitioned seating makes Hwieol Migeum an easy place for a private conversation.

Hi guys, it's Chami! I'd always wanted to check out Hwieol, a Korean bar near Migeum Station I'd been meaning to try for a company dinner, but this time I finally went on a date. It was a place I'd been curious about for a while, and once I got there, the dim space with soft lighting made it feel cozy yet upscale — genuinely great as a date spot near Migeum Station!
They serve all kinds of unique, unusual Korean dishes you don't see often, so let me introduce Hwieol, this Korean bar near Migeum Station, right now~~
What the seating and atmosphere are like at Hwieol Migeum
Hwieol Migeum has generously spaced seating divided by partitions, so it felt more private than I expected! There's enough distance from neighboring tables that you can chat comfortably without worrying about other people, which I loved. It'd be perfect for a date or a gathering with friends~

The overall vibe is on the darker side, but the mix of black and orange tones gave it a soft yet upscale feel. With the gentle lighting and great atmosphere, I thought it'd be a perfect fit as a date spot for drinks near Migeum Station.
Hwieol Migeum menu and ingredient origins

Rather than the same old, predictable Korean dishes, Hwieol Migeum had a lot of special, unique takes on Korean food~~ There were menu items built on a Korean base but with a fusion twist mixed in, so it's a great place to visit when you want to try something different!

It felt like the kind of Korean bar near Migeum Station that would totally satisfy a foreign friend if you wanted to properly introduce them to Korean food!
We ordered
- ✔️ Matcha makgeolli (fresh rice wine)
- ✔️ Set 3 (spicy yukgaejang hot pot, corn cheese pancake)
- ✔️ Mentaiko cream udon
This is what we ordered. I've tried plenty of fruit makgeolli, but this was my first matcha makgeolli, so I was pretty excited~~~
What does matcha makgeolli taste like?
Ta-da! Let me introduce the matcha makgeolli~ I bet a lot of you have had plenty of fruit makgeolli too, right? I've had my fair share, like strawberry and grapefruit makgeolli, but this was my first time with matcha, so I was really curious!!
Turns out Hwieol has ube makgeolli too, not just matcha!? Now I'm curious what the ube one tastes like, so I'll try that next time~~
The matcha makgeolli had a surprisingly thick texture, almost a bit like yogurt! On the first sip, I got that faint signature rice aroma of makgeolli, and then the deep, thick matcha scent came rushing in the more I drank!
The bitter, rich flavor of matcha was quite striking~~ and it went surprisingly well with the makgeolli! It was a bit like drinking a matcha latte while still tasting that distinct makgeolli character — a fun and delicious combination!
Spicy yukgaejang beef hot pot

This right here is the spicy yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) hot pot~~ It came out way more generous than I expected! Plenty of beef piled on top, plus bok choy, tofu, and green onion packed in — it looked hearty and abundant at a glance!

Here's a view of the spicy yukgaejang hot pot from above! The ingredients on top were piled so high it looked like it might overflow. So I pressed everything down with a ladle to soak it in the broth~~
From beef to vegetables to tofu, the ingredients were completely packed in, so it looked hearty just from looking at it! There was plenty for it to work perfectly as a drinking snack.

As the ingredients bubbled away and the flavor seeped into the broth, it got richer and richer! With the deep flavor of the beef soaked in, it had a spicy yet clean, savory flavor~~

And then in goes the egg~~~ If the yukgaejang we usually know has a relatively clear, sharp broth, Hwieol's spicy yukgaejang hot pot had a deeper, richer flavor!

It felt like a mix of yukgaejang and beef noodle soup, kind of? The rich yet clean broth was really appealing! Cooking beef in the thick yukgaejang broth felt almost like eating Korean-style shabu-shabu or hot pot — really delicious~~
Mentaiko cream udon

The mentaiko cream udon was loaded with mentaiko (seasoned pollock roe), so it was full of nutty, savory flavor! There was also a spicy sauce underneath the cream sauce, and mixing it all together gave it a slightly spicy rosé feel!

Combined with the nuttiness of the mentaiko, it had great umami, savory-salty, and addictive flavor. Best of all, the udon noodles were plump, thick, and springy, giving it a really nice chewy texture!

The portion was more generous than expected too, and especially the thick, spicy cream sauce was so good! After eating a bunch of Korean dishes, adding this fusion mentaiko cream udon to the mix made for a perfect combination~~

Eating it, I thought I should've dipped the corn cheese pancake in this sauce too~~^^
Corn cheese pancake

The corn cheese pancake looked golden and loaded with cheese right from the visual — totally nutty and delicious-looking!

It came out round like a pizza, and cutting into it really did feel like eating pizza. The corn inside was sweet and plentiful, and with condensed milk sauce drizzled on top, it had a really sweet flavor throughout!

There was a familiar nuttiness like nurungji (scorched rice), and also a slightly exotic feel like a Taiwanese dish — this was one of my favorite dishes we had that day!

It was completely loaded with corn inside too, so every bite was full of that nutty flavor, and it was more filling than I expected.
Is Hwieol Migeum a good date spot near Migeum Station?
Hwieol Migeum had a lot of fusion Korean dishes you can enjoy in a fresh way rather than the usual Korean menu, so it was extra fun to eat through. The atmosphere was also cozy and private, which made it a great date spot near Migeum Station~~
From the matcha makgeolli to the spicy yukgaejang hot pot, mentaiko cream udon, and corn cheese pancake, every single dish had its own character, which made it really satisfying! If you're looking for a Korean bar near Migeum Station with great atmosphere, or something a little different in Korean food, I really recommend visiting Hwieol~~
