I dug through a bunch of blog reviews and even read the comments carefully, and it felt trustworthy enough to actually go. Today I'm sharing my satisfying trip to Hamdon, my pick for Jeongwang-dong food.

I'd walked by and wondered about it just from the sign, and this time I finally went in.

I'd heard it's packed even on weekdays, and it really was. Even at lunchtime, it was nearly full — finding an empty table was surprisingly hard.

It really felt like a place true to its Jeongwang-dong reputation, with customers never letting up. You could sense why it's so talked about before even stepping inside.

What comes with Hamdon's 18,000-won lunch meat platter?

This time I ordered the Hamdon lunch pork belly set, the ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) option.

This is a lunch-only set available until 3pm, weekday or weekend. Miss the window and you can't order it, so checking the time before you go is a must. At ₩18,000 per person including rice, the price felt totally reasonable too.

Given how prices are these days, this much food for this price felt genuinely fair.

Having kimchi jjigae come with it was nice, but getting minari (water dropwort) wraps too was truly special. (I hadn't seen this combination at other places, so it was a welcome surprise.) Wrapping the pork with minari kept things from getting greasy, and I just kept eating.

A staff member kindly grilled the meat for us, so all we had to do was eat.

Not having to worry about grilling meant I could just focus on eating, which made it easy to chat with my companion too.

The side dishes were also laid out neatly like a proper spread, making it feel like a real, well-hosted meal.

How was the half-and-half beef tartare naengmyeon?

It felt like a waste to eat only grilled meat, so we also ordered Hamdon's half-and-half beef tartare naengmyeon (cold noodles). It came with beef tartare, spicy sauce, and cold noodle broth split half and half. Being able to enjoy two flavors in one bowl felt like a fresh idea.

Honestly, the naengmyeon itself tasted about like what you'd expect. Still, it was refreshingly cold and quite tasty. Not too sharp in flavor and clean-tasting, it was easy to eat without feeling heavy.

Maybe because the meat was so good, the naengmyeon felt relatively light in comparison, and overall the combination balanced well. If you're the type to order meat and naengmyeon together, this pairing might just hit the spot.

Why Hamdon is worth a trip to Jeongwang-dong

For anyone looking for a great grilled meat spot among Jeongwang-dong restaurants, I'd recommend Hamdon Main Branch.

The meat quality was great, the side dishes were well put together, and even the staff service was friendly — all three boxes checked.

The lunch pork belly set in particular seems perfect for anyone who wants to get good value too.

Weekday lunch at Hamdon: the verdict

Even visiting on a weekday for lunch, there was enough of a crowd that we had to wait.

The pork belly flavor was definitely good, and the neatly arranged side dishes made for a satisfying meal. Adding the naengmyeon on top made for a hearty, well-rounded lunch.

The spread was generous for the price, so I think I'll be craving it again. My husband, who came with me, was happy too, which made the visit even better.
