First time trying fire bone stew near Jeongwang Station

I was looking for lunch near Jeongwang Station and decided to try something a little different this time! I've had gamjatang (pork bone stew) before now and then, but this was my first time trying bulbbyeojjim (fire bone stew). Since it was my first time, I was curious how it would taste — and it turned out way more satisfying than I expected, so now I want to go back and try the gamjatang too.

The place I visited was Cheongchun Bulbbyeojjim & Gamjatang Jeongwang Station branch! It's close to Jeongwang Station so it was easy to get to, and the menu ranges from gamjatang to bone hangover soup to bone stew, so it looked like a solid option when you need a hearty meal near Jeongwang Station!

The restaurant is right in front of Jeongwang Station, so it's a convenient spot to visit — it seemed like a good option for accessibility if you're looking for a hangover-soup place near Jeongwang Station in the morning?? The interior had a comfortable atmosphere for eating, and it worked well for two of us sharing bone stew.

Gamjatang and bone stew are dishes that work well shared among a group, so it seemed like a good match for visiting with friends or family to share a generous meal. They also have royal bone stew alongside gamjatang, bone hangover soup, and bone kalguksu, so I wanted to try the other menu items next time! (The menu itself is genuinely full of stuff that's perfect for curing a hangover.)

How spicy is the small fire bone stew when you ask for less spice?

What we ordered that day was the small fire bone stew, and we asked for the spice level to be turned down a bit!

Since it was a dish I'd never tried before, I wondered if bulbbyeojjim might be really spicy — but for our taste, asking for it less spicy turned out to be the right call! It kept the spicy flavor while staying comfortable to eat alongside the meat, so my chopsticks kept going back for more haha.

Side dishes and steamed egg (gyeranjjim) come out, and the gyeranjjim is so fluffy and delicious ㅠㅠㅠ. It was a little chilly that day, and having warm gyeranjjim felt like it melted the cold right off!

Finally, the fire bone stew arrived! Since it was my first time ordering this, I ate it with a bit of anticipation just from the visuals — and it was genuinely more delicious than expected! What I was especially happy about was the glass noodles (dangmyeon) and rice cake. I'd only been thinking about the bone stew when I ordered, but there were noodles and rice cake mixed in among the meat, so it was fun picking through and finding different things haha. I love it when dishes like this have glass noodles in them, so I was totally satisfied!

The sauce soaked well into the noodles too, so I kept alternating — meat, then noodles, then rice cake, over and over. The rice cake was chewy too, and it went really well with the spicy sauce!

Does the pork have any gamey smell?

Another thing I really liked was that there was no gamey smell from the meat at all! When eating bone dishes, that distinct meaty smell can sometimes be off-putting, but the fire bone stew I had that day had none of that discomfort. Picking the meat off the bone while also eating the noodles and rice cake made for a lot of variety within one dish!

Adding cheese to the fire bone stew tames the heat

I assumed fire bone stew would automatically be super spicy, but adjusting the spice level meant I could enjoy the flavor of the spicy sauce without it being overwhelming haha. Especially after adding cheese and eating it mixed into the sauce, the spiciness felt a bit more mellowed out! If you're someone who finds really strong spice too much, it might be worth adjusting the spice level when you order.

Next visit: the gamjatang

After eating, I found myself thinking the gamjatang here would probably be delicious too?! Since there was no gamey smell in the bone dish and the seasoning suited my taste well, I now want to try the gamjatang next time! It seems like a good place to visit when looking for breakfast or lunch near Jeongwang Station!
