Besides dakbokkeumtang, there are also side menu items like cockles, seafood pancake, squid, acorn jelly, and seasoned acorn jelly noodles, so it seemed like a great spot to order several dishes together for a hearty meal. Especially since these menu items pair really well with drinks too! 👍🏻

You can choose your spice level for the dakbokkeumtang! Level 1 - not spicy, Level 2 - about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, Level 3 - very spicy. I heard most people order level 2, so this time I also went with level 2, the Shin Ramyun-level spiciness.
What we ordered: dakbokkeumtang small ₩24,000 (spice level 2) / seafood pancake ₩14,500 / cockle bibimbap ₩8,500

Water, alcohol, and drinks are all self-serve ~! Soju is ₩3,900 and drinks are ₩1,900 🫢 Pretty decent prices, don't you think? You just grab what you need yourself, so it was convenient to use :)
How spicy is spice level 2 dakbokkeumtang?
The small dakbokkeumtang at level 2 was spicy-hot but with plenty of savory depth, so unless you absolutely can't handle any spice, it's a very manageable level. Jeongjeong-a Sikdang says they use 100% domestic fresh chicken.
The dakbokkeumtang arrived looking insanely good. Get into my mouth already.

Jeongjeong-a Sikdang is famous for using 100% domestic fresh chicken, making a dakbokkeumtang with tender, gamey-smell-free chicken fully soaked in seasoning! Let's see just how good it really is~

It comes out bubbling away on the burner 🔥 Just looking at that spicy broth makes me feel unclogged inside.
I tried the broth first! It wasn't just harshly spicy — it had real savory depth, so I kept spooning it up. I ordered it at level 2, and unless you truly can't handle any spice at all, this is a level you can enjoy comfortably!

The chicken had really plump meat, tender with no gamey smell, so mixing it with rice in the broth was pure honey..♥️ It wasn't dry at all — nice and moist, with the broth well soaked into the chicken.

You can't resist adding glass noodles to this broth. They added the noodles partway through, and the broth got even more rich and thick... Adding glass noodles isn't optional, it's mandatory.
Cockle bibimbap for 8,500 won: worth adding?
Jeongjeong-a Sikdang's cockle bibimbap (seasoned rice bowl with cockles) is ₩8,500, and it was generously packed with plump cockles. They said the cockles are shipped directly from Yeosu and Beolgyo and cleaned and prepped in-house.
And here comes the super fresh-looking cockle bibimbap! It really does have that extra-fresh feel, doesn't it? Mixing the rice, veggies, and seasoning all together...

The cockles were nice and plump, packed in generously. The seasoning was just right, and the sesame oil aroma wafted up so nicely, making it super savory... Just looking at it makes your mouth water. Definitely order this as a side dish ✔️ I paired mine with cabbage kimchi. And at ₩8,500, what a bargain?

Cockle bibimbap, nom!
Seafood pancake for 14,500 won: size and squid
Jeongjeong-a Sikdang's seafood pancake is ₩14,500, and it's quite large, great for sharing among a group. It's also packed with plenty of squid, which gave it a great texture.

You can't have dakbokkeumtang without a seafood pancake, right?!

Here comes the huge seafood pancake, ta-da. The size was really impressive. Great for sharing among several people!

There was so much squid in it too~! Great texture.
So filling, the table's practically bending under the weight.. With dakbokkeumtang, cockle bibimbap, and seafood pancake, I had a really hearty lunch today, yum 😋

Verdict: is Jeongjeong-a worth it for chicken stew in Jeongwang-dong?
💡 Overall verdict. Everything was generously portioned and delicious, so it was a really satisfying meal :) 🖤 The dakbokkeumtang broth was spicy and rich, so good, and the chicken was tender, perfect with rice! The cockle bibimbap had plump cockles and a generous portion, so I really recommend ordering it as a side!!! If you're looking for a spot for dakbokkeumtang in Jeongwang-dong, I recommend Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ:・゚✧

They also sell ginger-doraji (bellflower root) syrup slow-simmered for 24 hours in a cauldron for ₩13,000, and homemade baked health crackers for ₩3,500, just so you know :)
They've also been doing steady charity work, and even received a 'Good Neighbor Certificate.' A place this good deserves your support!
