📍A Hoam-dong restaurant with a kids' zone📍
Whenever I'm craving meat, there's one place that comes to mind pretty often — Hanmaeum Meat Restaurant Chungju Hoam branch, in Hoam-dong!
This isn't my first visit either — I've already been more than three times, so it's firmly established itself as one of my real favorites haha. This time too I ordered the pork half-portion and ate very well.

What comes in the half-pig aged pork order at Hanmaeum?

The biggest reason I keep coming back to Hanmaeum is definitely the aged meat.

The pork half-portion lets you try several different cuts at once, which makes ordering easy when there are two of you, and there's the fun of picking through cut by cut.

When the meat arrives it already looks amazing, and once it starts sizzling on the grill with that smell filling the air, the waiting is honestly the hardest part haha.

Taking a bite of the nicely browned meat, the juiciness is still there and the savory flavor is great — this place's meat really is good, I thought. It's tasty with just a light dip in salt, and it also pairs well with ssamjang (dipping sauce) or lettuce wraps, so mixing up combinations makes the meat disappear fast~

Steamed egg and refillable doenjang stew with every order

And here, it's not just meat that arrives — there's a generous lineup of side dishes to go with it, which I love.

The soft, fluffy steamed egg is great to spoon up before eating the meat (protein boost, love it!), and the doenjang stew that comes with the meat order also stays bubbling and warm.

The doenjang stew is especially nice because it's refillable, so when you're craving broth mid-meal you can just ask for more without worry. The array of basic side dishes is varied too, so you can try a different combination with every bite.

My favorite side at Hanmaeum: the gochu-ji pickled peppers
And there's one thing I always make sure to eat when I come here — gochu-ji (pickled peppers)! I love side dishes that are mild but pair well with meat, and this place's gochu-ji really hits my taste exactly right!

Putting a bit of gochu-ji on a piece of meat cuts the richness and is weirdly addictive, so this time too I ended up asking for a refill haha. This kind of side dish tastes a bit different at every BBQ place, and Hanmaeum's gochu-ji is completely my style!

Scallion salad with jjolmyeon noodles hidden underneath

Another fun surprise was the scallion salad. When I went to grab some, I realized there was jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles) sitting underneath. I'm not usually a huge jjolmyeon person, but eating it with the scallions, the tangy sauce paired really well with the meat~
It felt like ordering one scallion salad but getting a bonus dish underneath, haha. After eating meat nonstop, adding the jjolmyeon in between totally revived my appetite, so I kept reaching for it.

Finishing the meal with warm nurungji toasted rice

After eating my fill of meat, I ordered nurungji (scorched rice) on top. I like finishing meals warm, so at BBQ restaurants I always look for nurungji or sungnyung (scorched rice tea) if they have it.
Eating the nutty, warm nurungji filled me up nicely and made my stomach feel settled after all that meat. Between the meat, side dishes, stew, steamed egg and finally the nurungji, I really ate well that day.

Why I've been back to this Hoam-dong BBQ spot three times

Honestly, a lot of places called 'must-visit' end up being one-time visits, but I've already been here more than three times. The meat suits my taste that much, and being able to enjoy aged meat alongside so many side dishes and extras makes this the place that naturally comes to mind whenever I want meat, haha.
