Jongak sashimi spot with 3rd-floor terrace seats: Suksseong Susan

In short

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is an aged-sashimi restaurant on the 3rd floor of Youth Street by Jongak Station in Jongno, Seoul. The small aged sashimi set (69,000 won) for two came with salt-grilled shrimp and red crab innard cream croquettes, and the salmon, monkfish liver and tuna were eaten sushi-style over seasoned vinegar rice (chodaribap). With free corkage and partitioned room-style seating, Suksseong Susan works well for group dinners and get-togethers in Jongak.

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch: aged sashimi by Jongak Station

Suksseong Susan is an aged-sashimi restaurant on Jongak Station's Jeongmulgeori (Youth Street). Jongak has so many good restaurants — aged sashimi places, meat places, you name it — so today I went to Suksseong Susan, known for its delicious aged sashimi platter... haha

Stairs leading up to the 3rd floor entrance of Suksseong Susan

It's on the 3rd floor, so I walked up the stairs, and the entrance already felt private — a separated space.

Why the partitioned 3rd-floor terrace-style seats suit group dinners

Inside Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch, the tables are set in separated sections so you feel a sense of privacy. And because it's on the 3rd floor, it feels like a terrace overlooking the Jongak street, with a breeze drifting in — just the vibe for drinking! No wonder this place is famous for group dinners and gatherings; the interior definitely plays a part.

Complimentary side dishes: boiled beans, tofu salad, and mustard-leaf kimchi

The tofu salad served as a complimentary starter

The complimentary side dishes were boiled beans, a tofu salad, and mustard-leaf kimchi. The tofu salad in particular was a great combo — soft tofu with shredded cabbage, sesame dressing, and bonito flakes +_+ It's the kind of thing I'd want to make at home!

Lunch menu board at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch

For Jongak lunch, from 11am to 2pm, they also sell a kaisendon set / hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap / chicken nanban set..^^

Menu board listing aged sashimi and side dishes

There are lots of tasty menu items with aged sashimi, but even better — the sides to pair with them are perfect!

  • Ginger ale set
  • Tonic set
  • Singha set
  • Chodairi rice (vinegared sushi rice)..^^

*Since it's free corkage, you can bring your own drinks and order these sides to enjoy the meal even more. **Chodairi rice, eaten with the aged sashimi, turns into a kaisendon or sushi-like experience — the best~

Complimentary side dishes arranged on the table

The complimentary side dishes were solid too..^^* Traditional liquors and more // free corkage.

It's a free-corkage bar near Jongak that also stocks traditional liquors, and the prices are reasonable, so I think you can just walk in and order without worrying haha

A glass of the ordered Kelly beer

I thought about grabbing sake at the convenience store, but ended up just ordering a Kelly beer at the restaurant — it must have been stored well, because it tasted great!!!

Aged sashimi set 69,000 won with salt-grilled shrimp and crab cream croquette

We ordered generously: aged sashimi, salt-grilled shrimp, and crab-innard cream croquette. The recommended aged sashimi set was for two!

The dishes came out one by one, and I tried the aged sashimi first.

A wide variety of sashimi arranged evenly on the platter. Since it's aged, the umami of the fish is amazing~ Being able to try many different kinds made it even better, I loved it..ㅎ

There seem to be more and more salt-grilled shrimp places these days, and the salt and butter worked so well together here that the salt-grilled shrimp came out great....... ate it up happily haha

Eating the sashimi sushi-style over seasoned vinegar rice

Suksseong Susan's chodairi rice is a side that lets you enjoy the aged sashimi sushi-style. I made salmon sushi with the sashimi and chodairi rice.

Then made sushi with monkfish liver too haha — the fun of picking and choosing +_+ that's the charm of a sashimi platter.

The tuna melts in your mouth too, and it's even better with the wasabi that comes alongside.ㅎㅎ Friendly service, a wide variety, and enjoying a Jongak bar in a private 3rd-floor space — a great aged sashimi spot near Jongak.

There's a fish tank inside the restaurant too, and apparently if you write a receipt review, there's an event where you get a free seafood dish.

After dinner: weekend events around Gwanghwamun and Cheonggyecheon

This weekend, quite a lot of events were happening around Gwanghwamun and Jongak Station. At Cheonggyecheon, there was a reading event run by a library. Flowing water, calm music, and all kinds of books! Everyone sitting and reading created such a great atmosphere~

At Sejong Center, there was a Samsung Card event going on, and I even got a chair through the Monimo app haha

Event and performance scene in front of Sejong Center

Watched a performance, checked out the event at Gwanghwamun Square... enjoyed aged sashimi and beer at this great Jongak aged sashimi spot, then soaked in the culture nearby in Jongno~ Such a fun time! And delicious too!!
