Hi, it's DANI :) I was looking for a place to have dinner with my younger brother in Jongno, and he said he wanted sashimi, so we went out for aged sashimi together after a while~ While looking around for where to go, Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch caught my eye.

Snapped a photo because the logo was cute. This place isn't your usual live-fish sashimi spot — they specialize in aged sashimi, low-temperature aged for over 24 hours, so I really wanted to try it 😋

It's on the 3rd floor, so up the stairs we go. This looks like the right place, right?!! The lunch menu looked pretty good too.
120 partitioned seats: is Suksseong Susan good for Jongno group dinners?

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is fairly spacious, seating 120 in total, and every table has its own partition. When we visited, quite a few people were there for work dinners and gatherings, but you don't end up making a lot of eye contact with the next table. Plus, they take groups from 2 people up to 10 or more. It felt like a place where you could eat privately in Jongno.
What we ordered at Suksseong Susan and what it cost
Looking at the menu, we ordered the small aged sashimi platter (₩69,000), salt-grilled shrimp (₩29,000), and red king crab innard cream croquette (₩19,000).

What comes on the 69,000 won small aged sashimi platter?
The small aged sashimi platter at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is ₩69,000 for two, made up of 5–6 kinds of seasonal fish aged at low temperature for 24 to 36 hours. The dish I was most looking forward to came out first.

What I liked was that each type of aged sashimi was labeled so you could easily tell them apart at a glance. Amberjack, greenling, bluefin tuna, salmon, red seabream, olive flounder, plus ankimo (monkfish liver) and black flying fish roe were all there. With so many kinds on one plate, it was fun picking through them one by one, and each fish had a slightly different texture and flavor, which made comparing them as we ate even better.
The aged sashimi had a soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture with a deep, savory flavor. My brother tried a piece too and said it was so good haha.
Salt-grilled shrimp, 29,000 won: a seasonal dish
It felt like a waste to stop at just sashimi, so we also ordered the salt-grilled shrimp for ₩29,000. It's a seasonal item, so availability may vary depending on when you visit — just a heads-up. The shrimp looked really appetizing that day.

Shrimp turning golden brown on a bed of salt. Peel off the shell and you get plump, springy flesh — the salty seasoning meant it was great to eat plain, without needing any extra sauce.
Best of all, my brother peeled the shrimp for me himself haha. So I got to just sit back and eat.. haha, thanks bro.
Red snow crab innard cream croquette, 19,000 won

Another standout dish was the red king crab innard cream croquette, ₩19,000. Crispy on the outside, soft cream on the inside — the savory flavor of the crab innards and a subtle hint of the sea made it taste clearly different from a regular croquette! That crispy-outside, creamy-inside texture was so good.
Free corkage and the rest of the Suksseong Susan menu

Another plus of Suksseong Susan is that the seasonal seafood lineup changes throughout the year, and beyond aged sashimi, you can also enjoy pasta, fried dishes, soups and more. They also offer free corkage for alcohol not sold in the store, so it's a good spot to bring your own wine, sake, or traditional liquor. That said, I'd recommend checking the conditions and availability before you visit!

Overall, Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch isn't just a place to grab one plate of sashimi and leave — it's great for enjoying aged sashimi alongside a variety of seafood dishes. If you're looking for a Jongno sashimi restaurant and want to try aged sashimi with a deeper, richer flavor than regular live-fish sashimi, I'd recommend giving it a visit ☺️ With just the two of us, from sashimi to shrimp to croquette, it made for a really full dinner — I'm stuffed..
